Default Few problems

I have a few problems with my focus, it's a 2000 1.6 Zetec problems are:

  • While driving the car the central locking has a habit of flicking on and off, most of the time it doesn't succesfully lock it just seems to make a sound
  • At idle there is a ticking sound, I'm not sure if it is injector noise, it isn't that loud, just something I want to know about
  • The locking wheel nut key is missing (auction car) I have read that ford have a set of master keys, but is this type of locking key original ford or aftermarket

Thanks for your help

Edit:

Also the the central locking fob doesn't work, I think there might be a piece missing out of the fob for the positive battery connection, Anyone got a fob for reference?

here's a picture

as for the central locking going on an off, i'd say you may have a broken wire, usually the bit where the door hinges are breaks down over time. had mine done on a citroen zsara for 60 quid. the ticking I wouldn't even worry about, but people are different so it may bother you.. it could be numerous things. and as for the locking wheel nuts, just visit your ford dealer as i did with mine, a bloke came out with the right key and took them off, and he had 4 nuts for me to put in place.. all for a tenner in his pocket.. if not then they can be cut off an just buy a new set mate

Thanks for the advice, I'd go check the wires out now, but it doesn't stop p*ssing it down round here, oh How I hate the winter...

I'll see about the wheelnuts as soon as I can really, if ford won't do anything I'll just take it to a friends garage see if they can bodge something up.

It did have a slight hesitation when you revved from idle, It seems to have stopped now, I think it was something to do with the battery being a bit flat, it was stood for awhile, probably a good 6 months, needs a service, timing belt and a good thrashing really just gotta find some nice prices

Hi my friend has a Fiesta zetecS which has the same engine, i find that is quite a tappy motor compared to my 1.8, maybe its just the motor.
But make sure you have a good oil level, but I'm sure you knew that already!
And about the locking wheel nuts, they do look exactly like the Ford ones, however I am not sure what aftermarket ones look like!
Hope this helps!

You could have just got another wheel locking nut key, as now you have no protection on the wheels.

As to the ticking sound it could be injectors. As it was from auction I would change all fluids, oil, coolant etc. Be sure to replenish with 5/30 oil, NOTHING else.

For the key, have a look at the circuit board. When I got mine, the unlock button was loose on one side. Soldered it back on and been fine since. I don't know which part of the key is coded mind, but if it's the other part, and not too expensive, I wouldn't bother. I shake like mad, so it took me ages.

I dont think theres that many chancers that would enjoy stealing some standard ford alloys, maybe if I had some fancy expensive alloys, but they aren't worth anything to anyone really...

all fluids have been changed.
