Angry Speedo clocks not working Help!!!

Hi i wondering if any1 had any advice for me i have a Ford Focus Black 1.6 51plate,
The past few months the speedo keeps stopping working it a intermittent fault because it doesnt happen all the time. I can be driving at 30mph and the speedo will just drop to 0mph the car doesnt cut out then after a couple of minutes it will just start working again? Someone recommended new clocks but i dont know does any1 have any idea please.

Its a common fault on The ford Focus, it was on Watchdog a while back.
Check with your ford dealer, if it is within a batch of serial numbers you can get new dials at a reduced price. I think it was £50.00 instead of £250 ish !
I had the same fault on my ST170.

Same thing happened to mine.I saw the Watchdog programme and thought it could be the clocks .Investigated further and turns out it was the Speed sensor that sits in the top of the gearbox.£18 but a bugger to change.
It wasn,t just the clocks that were effected,it was other things that were controlled by the speed sensor like: automatic door lock when pulling away and also the stereo getting louder the faster you went.

99% of the time it will be the VSS at fault, the other 1% it will be the clocks. The vss in the IB5 box (which you have) can be a pig to change, however the vss in the mtx75 is a 5 minute job!

No,change the speed sensor first as it,s the cheapest, around £20.If it,s still playing up,get a set of clocks of ebay for around £20.If you go to ford for the clocks expect to pay £300.

I have a Focus myself and the speedo kept dying and cumming back so i changed the sensor and it worked for a bit then died again and remained like this so then I spent £30 for new clocks and still doesn't work. I have now been adviced that it could be a faulty ABS sensor or another part in gearbox which spins next to the sensor, I have a guy cumming to look at it on Tuesday...
