Default Remapping

I visited my local tuning garage yesterday to find out about remapping my focus 1.8tdci and this is what I was told, We have already mapped a couple of the brand new Ford Fucus TDCI so your should not present a problem. The basic map will produce 30 bhp. However, if we have the car for a few hours we can fine tune the map and should see nearer 40 bhp but with large torque gains (which is probably more important). You should also see aroung 10-15% improvement with the fuel economy. If its motability then the standard (factory) settings can be returned to the ECU before you hand it back (at no cost). The total cost of the conversion is £395.00 inc vat. In all honesty a modern engine does not require anywhere near the same amount of running in so anything above 1-1200 miles and it will be fine.

What do you think of this? has anyone on hear had a 1.8 remapped, I was also thinking about a tuning box instead

sounds like any other ODB2 port remap, that price sounds good. what brand of software do they use as there are loads out there, some more reputable than others.

Sounds like what you would expect them to say really.

The key thing is to take a recomendation on if they are any good or not though of course.

Stay away from a tuning box, go with a remap.

It sounds like what most of the others are saying, so its your choice, but i am getting a remap done in a few weeks on my 1.6 TDCI focus 2007

and why is that? what bad experience do you actually have of these?

the beauty of having the box yourself is that YOU control when it is returned to stock for servicing etc, take the huge choice available for teh focus ST for example, dreamscience (that i run) bluefin, code red, all of which are hand held programmers that allow you to load the cutom map, return to stock, read and reset fault codes and then sell the unit on if you ever sell the car. selling the car with aJUST a remap looses your investment alltogether.

Dave Henshall- i'm not sure you're familiar with tdci remaps and these tuning boxes.. the latter is generally a box you plug in that simply ups the fuel pressure (they do vary in what exactly they do).. they're pretty nasty.. that is what the guy is talking about.
