Default limp mode..

hi

i have a friend with a ford focus (Y reg 2001 1.4 sport)

the limp mode has come on and she has been told by a local mechanic that he has to totally remap her ECU at great cost....sounds like bullshit to me lol

anyway is there a way i can flash the code out on the engine management light~?

kind regards, brian

You're right- it is BS. It's very easy to revert back to normal. All you need is a laptop with the right software and a connecting cable. Nothing else within the ECU needs to be tampered with. The cost will be disproportionately high due to the fact that having the software yourself is a rare thing. Sorry I can't be more help...

Can be reset in seconds all you need to do is check and clear DTC code. Scanguage or any bluefin will do it. Its done it for a reason though so there maybe an expensive problem lurking somewhere or it maybe just the ECU being overprotective.

Sadly some garages like ot rip off women. She needs to find out why it is in limp mode first and fix the problem. It should go out of limp mode on it's own then.
