Default advice on induction kits please

Hi everyone, i wonder if anyone can help me, i have been considering fitting a pipercross viper induction kit to my Focus 18i, but after reading some earlier posts 04 05 06 i noticed some people were having problems after fitting K&N induction kits with the ECU and therefore the car would not run correctly, and as i was initially considering a K&N 57i Gen II induction kit it somewhat put me off, thus why i changed my mind to the viper, even though i have since heard alot off good things about the 57i Gen II, but that was until i read about fitting a ST170 Snorkel, Auto Air Deflector and an upgraded panel filter, so will these fit my 18i without any modifying and will they give me the same sound and performance of the induction kit.. I would like to say thank you in anticipation of any help and advice anyone can give me...

Daz

hello mate i have the pipercross fittted to my 1.8 zetec and it runs really well and sounds quite nice also. i have no problems with it really. the only thing i will say is it vibrates against the battery cover now and then and can be a little anoying but apart from that it is good

Could the K&N GenII cold air pipe be linked to the snorkel instead of fitting to the lower bumper as i would be worried about water getting into the air filter?

I fitted a K&N cone thingy to my 1.8 zetec and it created a massive suffocating deadspot at anything under 2500rpm when u put ur footdown so bad in fact that in 4th and 5th the car actually slowed down, NO POWER, since swapped for a panel K&N which is fine!

I really can't get my head round why people fit the air filter in it's original position there is no air flow to the filter and what bit of air is there is surely warm/hot??

Thats why I did this >>

i have the viper on my st170 and i have noticied a difference and it doesnt rattle if you find an addtional nut.. i am really impressed with it..

i had a pipercross cone on my escort which is fine but the 170 gets very warm and i didnt want heatsoak,

but dont be bothered about spray.. unless its submerged in water it wont make andy difference

Do you mean the silicon hose mate? I measured it up and spoke to paul at Roose Motorsport who made em up for me... I have a couple of lads at the mo who i'm going to be doing the same to there's.

As for the battery relocation, You can pretty much utilise the standard items on the car, it's just a case of drilling some new mounting points, moving the earth points and extending a few wires...

i bought a large diameter cold air pipe
like those used to feed k&n filters
fed it up from next to the rad and modded the bottom of the standard air box to fit
this got rid of my low down flat spot and it doesnt feel starved at top end revs
this is because the stanard focus air boxes and snorkels are very restrictive and dont get a good cold air feed
