Newman solid tappets
Hi all. Recently fitted the phase 4 newman zvh cam , along with some group a 214bigger steel valves and solid tappets , and a bigger throttle body , with a bigger air bypass for my ALS. Also fitted a new one bigger one peice billet compressor wheel in turbo . After covering 112 miles had it mapped made 364bhp @31.9psi we've now raised he rev limiter up to 7200 as it still pulled strong at 7,000rpm.running spot on . After now covering 364 miles the newman tappets sound like a Jhon deer tractor !! Obviously it's time to re adjust ??? I'm guessing ?? I'm doing them tomorow . I hope yet won't need re adjusting for another 10,000 miles after this !!? Anyone else had much experience with using these everyday on the road ? Thanks in advance

Yup used them in my daily for i dunno, 4~ years now, probably more. First year i think i ended up adjusting them a good 6 times, probably about 4 times in the first 3 months (part learning curve, part bedding in), now its just a once a year check over/adjusting session to be safe.

Got to bare in mind that they only need to bed in tiny amounts to throw the valve lash/gap out. They are shedloads harder than the Kent etc toffee hydraulics but there still going to bed in slightly and cause variation. Once all is settled in it definitly is worth all the setting up time that your going through now

I've seen a 30bhp gain with the cam and tappets and valves and throttle body and bigger turbo , I expected more tbh but it's deff revving better than the Kent 35��I see your in Colchester that's where I am lol do you use vernier calipers to measure the tappet and adjust ? Or adjust and recheck ?ive never ran the Kent hydraulics . Always used the old genuine ford ones with no trouble to be fair . My first Kent cam lasted from 2006 to 2012 at over 300horse

To be honest the hardest part I my car is taking off the rocker cover 😂due to heat shields and turbo dampers . Basically u need the special tool from newmans , I done it the long way 1 at a time I got the lobe at the top with tappet out marked my cam pulley with chalk then rotated the engine over 180 degrees ,untill the cam lobe was at it's lowest point . Then retourque the rocker nut back on to 21fbt then measure the gap . And then alter to 10tho on the exhaust side and 8thou on inlet . The locking nuts have to be done ft!! Took me about 3 hours ! First time I've done them and there tedious to be honest ! U have to keep putting them in and out and re tourquing the rocker nut to the same setting untill you have the required gap 😁👍now it doesn't sound like a tractor
