if its a rs turbo engine..... has it got a rs turbo rad or standard 5dr?

make sure your running the proper rst one and give motorsport developments a ring, for £35'ish i got a uprated fan switch and low temp thermostat and they were the best mods for the money i ever got for a rs turbo

dubs44 on here has a nice rad for sale too, just mint standard one

Sorry I have a full airtec turbo rad from msd and a radtec cooler I think it is. My fans are on a switch currently but even crusing at 65 the temps are still 100 degrees

phone msd mate

i had the alloy rad and cooler and had the same problems, it would only kick the fan in when it started to boil

fitted their fan switch and thermostat and cured it and would only ever get to just under 3/4s with outside temps in the high 20s C

VALUE FOR MONEY THEY WERE BRILLIANT

Fit a lower temp fan switch as found in the S1 (92 degree as opposed to the S2's 102 degree) and fit an MSD 82 degree thermostat. Job done. My fans kick in just past half way on the standard temp gauge.

A lower temp fan switch will not cure your problem, been there and tried it...
You need to increase airflow to your rad, at 65mph theres much more wind going into the front of the car than a pair of fans can ever reproduce, so if its not cooling then the fans wont cool it either.
Try running it with a standard ic on for a few journeys, if its fine then youve got an airflow problem. I swapped my IC and ive driled some holes in the bumper to aid airflow.
A lower temp opening stat is a good idea, ive got an 82c stat.

I was thinking about drilling holes and side mounting the number plate either that or cutting the bumper bar down to aid air flow.. my first plan is to do a run with the bumper off for 10 mins

I did say he needs to 82c thermostat combined with the fan switch, another thing to think about is, are you running a rst bonnet? And rst bumper?

Both of these were designed to aid airflow (slightly) but a standard model bumper is not

This ^^, the fans should not be when moving anyway, op have you actually confirmed the problem is not a jammed thermostat and that the circulation is ok?

I can't see how a IC can make that big a difference to the temp, afterall the air in theory will pass through it.

Martin in theory yes, but i compared my radtec and my airtec side by side, and the radtec you could barely see any daylight through and the airtec there was loads... Showing the amount of restriction on the airflow the radtec caused me.
I think mark has a good point about the bonnet and bumper, i have a standard bonnet and modified bumper, im thinking of doing a few runs with an rst bonnet to see if that helps the air flow after its been through the rad

Roger is correct, people get hung up on the idea that the fans play a big part in keeping temps down.... They don't, only when stationary or moving very very slowly.

OP 115 degree's is about as high as you want to safely be seeing, I've seen 120 on really hot summers days whilst boosting at 32psi for extended periods but that is to the extreme and not the norm.
