efi conversion rough running??

Default efi conversion rough running??

Ive just converted my orion to efi turbo started it up for the first time today it started first time luckily.It runs really rough though its not misfiring just seems lumpy.Ive checked all the wires, plugs, leads and everything i can think of.Has anyone else had this problem ? The best way i can describe it is that it sounds like a subaru. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated Thanks

timing is spot on and i dont have an adjustable pulley either. Im at a loss lol the one thing i havent done is scanned the car ive got an old auto diagnose in work that does the old fords ill try that tomorrow. I will try to change the ecu wires back to normal as a couple of people have said that sorted there running problems.

I know you said it isn't but it does sound like it's missing I'd start with a compression test then from there check there is a spark on all 4 then check all 4 injectors are working. Fairly sure you'll find a problem at one stage of this.

im using OFAC ecu with msd chip, beige injectors, converted xr2i loom .The engine has just been rebuilt aswell. It starts on the button and idles at the right rpm just dosent sound nice at all but it isnt a misfire

Ah i never thought about doing a compression test lol Shoulda thought of that really lol being a mechanic ill do that in tomorrow cheers

Have ya tried removing each lead 1 by 1 while its running, as with the injector wiring, also is it tapping a lot as you may have dead hydrolic tappet causing the comp to be low on one cylinder

Also did it run rough with the mfi setup aswell or just the efi setup

it just dosent sound right sounds like a boxer engine from what ive just been reading on fiestaturbo a couple of people on there had similar problems and move the ecu pins back to the original position and theres ran better. Im hoping its something that easy lol

I had an issue with mine started and ran but "potato potato potato", sounding like a scooby compression was down on #2, head back off turned out to be a sticking valve got it out and spun it up confirmed it was bent

Oh ok I take it you've used a cvh turbo engine and not built/converted the carb engine, as you probily know yourself the compression ratios are different, I've known an earth to cause poor running too, did you check the timing yourself, also is the belt tension right, I know it sounds like we're sucking eggs but its always the basic things we don't check

i will double check it all tomorrow i must have missed something simple. I used an escort rs turbo block and drilled the cps hole and checked it with the orion block as it had the cps hole and it was in the right place,new bearings, rings, arp con rod bolts, head was sent of to be skimmed pressure tested and cleaned was from an escort turbo,i used the adapter plate for the inlet i changed the afr sensor for the fiesta turbo one. If i cant get it to work ill just put the carb engine back in and strip the engine back down and start again lol Im glad i never removed any of the old wiring now lol

Check the basics, spark to each cylinder and fuel...
Also try unplugging the chip from the ecu.

You could try the old wiggle test on all connectors
Also pull each connector off and close the pins a bit

sorted it this morning. It was something i done I swapped pin 10 on the edis to pin 11 as i thought i read that it was the feed for the rev counter and thought that would run the rev counter I went through the wiring diagram last night and found out its actually a feed for the coil pack lol. I did wonder why the rev counter wasnt working lol so i put pin 10 back and ran a wire from 11 to the rev counter the car runs and ive got a rev counter However i did find another problem when the engine is up to temp it dosent idle properly it hunts between 500 rpm to 1000 rpm i think it may be a vac problem as ive fitted a dump valve and it dosent seem to be working. Also when i scanned the car im getting fault codes sayin 059 REMCO im not sure if this is something to do with the CO adjustment and also 024 air charge or air vane temp i think this might be something to do with the act sensor in the inlet manifold i have used one from a fiesta rs turbo but it was second hand. Could be ive got the wires the wrong way round on the sensor would that make it not work properly? Oh and my rad is leaking lol

Well done for the fix the reason it's hunting is cos its getting too much co, try disconnecting the ICV it will idle at about 1200rpm but if that's the fault then it could be a sticky or broke ICV, have ya tried blanking the DV as cvh turbo don't ever run right with them fitted unless setup properly

Ill give that a try tomorrow on my lunch break and get the car on the emissions tester. Would anyone know what the CO should be set at im running a chipped ecu apparently a MSD chip, beige injectors, Im running standard boost at the moment till its run in.

About 4-5.5% co and about 350-450ppm give or take depending on the setup(fueling)

when you get fault code from CO pot (code 59) it probably means the potentiometer is out of range (400-2800 ohm). buy a simpe electronic potentiometer, it costs nothing comparing to original ford. then set the co pot around 1500ohm and check fault codes. it should be fine .if not, the wiring is wrong. had the same problem.

wire from 11 on edis runs where exactly on the rev counter? i have to connect it cause i get only half readings.

Check and adjust your fuel pressure before you set your c.o first dude
Code 59 I think I used to get that or one for the purge canister from when I converted my van
That's was because I never connected the Amal valve up

Im not running an amal valve as yet but the wiring has been put in for one. And stafico pin 11 from the edis i just ran straight to the rev counter wire which was green on the back of the clocks it works fine. Also gup what should the fuel pressure be im running a brand new 255 lph fuel pump ive used s2 fuel lines and a s2 fuel filter. Also how can i adjust the fuel pressure as i havent got a adjustable fuel pressure reg just a standard one.

The standard one is adjustable dude
If you look at the the top of the reg in the middle you will see a shiny little cap
If you remove that,you will see a little Allen that will adjust the fuel pressure
But you need to find out what you should run iirmc I may of rung a tuner and asked what I should run on beiges poss could of been 3.5 bar at idle with vac off ( BUT please check this before you adjust it) I think i ran the co on about 3 to 3.5 % but wasn't running loads of boost and was all on on a air fuel gauge when checked ( was on a cvh engine)
I would just plug a ( I plugged in a fez Amal valve ) but set the boost on the act and the dreaded bleed valve lol
Was perfect for me unless you keep playing with it.
That could could be linked as it cannot see the Amal valve

Cheers for the info mate much appreciated. Any ideas on who would know what fuel pressure i should be running. Im using beige injectors,ofac ecu with an msd chip that i was told was reprogrammed by stu at motorsports development to 20 psi how true this is though i dont know,standard regulator and a 255lph fuel pump,im currently running 9 psi boost till its run.

Going through my previous cars I've done based on 195bhp it was running at 3.2bar on idle with the vac attached to the reg, I would personally go by checking the pressure with ign on(pump priming) then check it on idle then check it at 2k rpm, and then on basis on whether your running rich or lean adjust to suit

Found the root of my problems, my chip is for a 2.1 zvh. It was over fuelling so im gona send it to msd to remap it for a cvh. Or i might just go ofam as that was a future plan anyway.
