Is it a thing with the MK4 Escort?
It seems that no matter what angle I use the fuel splashes back out. I have to hold the nozzle almost out of the filler neck and literally trickle the fuel in about half speed and keep stopping to let the filler neck go down.
Seems to me there is something not right.

Never get splash back, but certainly not the quickest filler thats for sure. The bloke at the local Shell always laughs at me through the window when i pull up as he knows im going to be there the same time as about 2 people filling up and paying ![LOL](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
I checked my breather etc and all clear so god knows

never had a problem, fills at full speed till its full, never had anything but, if it doesnt, then you have a problem, either, someone has broken the cap and a bit of it is stuck in the neck, or your getting a massive air lock, would say more there is something in there, easy as piss to get off, one philips screw on the neck, one 10mm bolt into chassis leg, couple pipes and it will come off,

the chances are that in the past someone has broken off the old lockable filler & the inner part of the cap has gone down the neck partially blocking it .when i used to work in a body shop you use to see it quiet often ,the easiest way to cure it is run the car low & remove the filler neck to clear the blockage.

I remeber when Ł8 in my 1983 metro got me to and from 6th form, to and from my part time job and a little cruising.
