Default Zetec turbo boys. What turbo you using ?

What turbos are you guys running on your full zetec turbo conversions ?
What psi you running and what bhp you getting ?

Thinking of using a t28 I've picked up but aimIng for 300bhp and it might not cope.
Cheers
Steve

Gtx3076, 13 psi, 340 bhp! No lag at all, depends on your spec to be fair, but the gt series turbos and the gtx's are very good turbos but again depends on your budget...

My spec will be

Blacktop 2.0 zetec

2.1 rebore
Pec steel rods and wossner pistons
Rover turbo inlet manifold
Over gearbox exhaust manifold
Omex 600 management
Standard head

Just unsure wether to use my stage 2 t3 , my t28 or get in trouble with the wife and buy something bigger.

i've gone for a t34.55 but only due to cost.

i'm using a blacktop 2.0 with st170 pistons, wanted a over the gearbox manifold but they cost too much for a good one.

Standard ford pistons? That's not going to last long with a t34 isit? Unless your only going for like 220 odd bhp, but then your going to have a laggy turbo with no real punch?

Yep I heard about that, still don't think there in the same league as cosworth, pec, wossner pistons for example, otherwise everyone would be using them wouldn't they? But again depends on the bhp output really!

Theyre enough for what I want out of the engine. If i was aiming way past 300 proper rods and pistons would be on the shopping list!

The mass produced ford pistons will probally be far "better" than
wossner pistons.

I would imagine that the ford pistons are nearly as good as cosworth pistons.

If you wanted to run lots of boost and/or power I would have custom pistons made by cp or cosworth.

stick a turbonetics T04B ball bearing turbo on a 0.63 ex housing.
god for close to 450bhp then lol!

on a serious note GT28, more than man enough for good power.

Can't see how mass produced ford items like st170 would be better than say wossners.
St pistons need to be replaced for something like wossner if you plan on running over 300 bhp.
Otherwise everyone would be using st pistons.
There's different alloy and different processes used to forge pistons and the strength and quality varies quite significantly

He's correct that original ford items would be better wossners.... IF they were forged and not pressure cast

As it's been mentioned, ST170 pistons are NOT proper forged items the same way something like Wossners are. So no, they aren't better.

Back to the original question, a T34.63 is a good match for the engine on lower spec and on higher spec GT30.71.

I understand where your logic is coming from, I would agree that standard ford pistons are better in the sense they would last alot longer then a set of forged pistons, but there's no way that they are designed to take almost double the power and torque for a long period of time, therefore I will stick with saying that, forged pistons are better! And for 300bhp and similar torque figures I woudnt risk my engine, turbo etc etc on standard pistons, but good luck all the same!

i would get a mk1 frs turbo and have it rebuilt to john frs hybrid spec, by time you sell your other turbos you will be half way there...

they are very responsive, rev like mad to the limiter and depending on which spec you go for he does them for 340bhp and upto 400 i think....

or just use the low lag gt28 turbo...

your t28 will be good enough as long as you get the pulsar wheels machined into it, they are good for around 330bhp
