I had one made about ten years ago
I was very susceptable to cracking due to the long runner length and leverage of the turbo on the primaries
If you go this route you need to support the turbo well and try to opt for the thicker wall tubing

Out of the two the second one looks far better (your ebay links), the collector looks awful on the first and cylinder 4 seems to be fed right into the collector lol,]
The second manifold at least has a more conventional collector.
Austins is just sweeeeet though, equal length runners, nice gradual bends and a good looking collector.
I thought about an over gearbox manifold for my cvh and decided that a turbo damper/support would have to be made, maybe using rose joints and mounting from the bell housing bolts....

the two in the ebay adds look like poor copys of the proper ones made by zetaboostboy i think his name is, he is on here, he used to use a collector similar to the one in the first add (without number 4 feeding into the collector which will ruin flow due to the way the exhaust gas pulses but lets not get into that lol)but has now changed to a proper 4 to 1 collector, plus the one shown fitted to an engine in the first advert isnt the same as the one shown not fitted in the same advert!!
the second one looks even worse the angles at which the pipes leave the head flange are shocking!
austens manifold looks quite good tho

not a bad looking manifold that crazycage
, nortech and the above are made from sch 10 industrial piping , fanastic for high exhaust temps but the main problem is with the welder , if your brilliant with tig the go for it if your average then think twice as the edge of the piping has a chamfered edge and filling with a filler rod and getting enough material to give it strenght is very hard , hence lance at ojz engineering said you have to be one hell of a welder to get it right , but the cost was half the amount of 316 1.5mm piping ![Confused](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)
heres the collector pot ian has used for years , spun stainless steel , very strong and cheap enough , good enough for 522bhp with unequal headers

inside the collector pot
![](http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq300/ZETABOOSTBOY522BHP/paulpics160.jpg)
my first unequal lenght manifold that did 522bhp , you can see how all the headers are equal lenght but still running the collector pot design

these are the new manifolds running equal lenght headers and a proper 4-1 merge collector , here are a few designs

thank you boosty!
it is indeed sch10 pipe, and the total cost of material used on that manifold including both flanges was around Ł170 .
welding it wont be a problem for me ,but im a coded welder. it will be broke down into 4 runners argon perged root welded, filled and caped ,then polished ect.
p-s its not finshed yet i still have the external wastegate to fit to it.

i wont be a problem then for you , its more the average welder that needs to be aware that it needs plenty of heat to fully penerate through the thick material , i was looking at building mine from this as a 90 bend was around Ł6 compared to a 304 stainless mandrel which was Ł9.50 per bend. whats it like to clean up , emery cloth or proper hard core polishing?
cheers paul

i use a fibre mop piss easy takes seconds to do.emery cloth would work too.

Really like the look of this mate, i like the way that you have ago at doing everything yourself and still getting good results it just goes to show what happens with a little trial and error. When will your cars next outting be?
Just another question, where did you get you exhaust pipe and flandges from for the manifold if u dont mind me asking?
Cheers and keep up the good work

cheers bram, we like to have a go at building our own parts its all part of the fun for us.plus it saves us a fortune!
my car will be out from march onwards, will need running in but should be at central day.
so will richies escort but ricks is still a long way off.
i got both flanges off ebay, and the pipe and elbows from aalco.
