oil change now white smoke???
Hi all did an oil change on the weekend (used 15/50 mobil 1 fully sythetic) and every time i start my s2 from cold i get white/grey smoke. when the car is warm deres no smoke on idle, im pretty sure im gettin puffs of smoke on overrun so im guessin the oil seals in the turbo hav gone? can i put a thicker oil in to stop it seepin past the seals in the turbo?

Over filling is bad news for oil seals and creates excessive pressure in the engine. Firstly drain some oil out, you could just remove the oil filter to do this depending upon how overfull it actually is. Don't think it would be a good idea to run the engine until you do.
Take the charge carrier pipe off and the boost pipe to the turbo and see if there is oil in each. If so it could be your turbo oil seals.
Smoke on overrun suggests worn valve guides, stem seals or turbo oil seals. Do the above first then post your findings.
Stem seals is easiest if you have the tool for the job (less than Ł10 for one) but if you drop a valve collet down a hole in the engine the sump will have to come off to recover it. Best to block all holes with rags first.
Valve guides is a head off job and give it to a pro to do. You will need to budget probably Ł100 to have it done plus new head gasket and head bolts (about Ł60).
Failing that the turbo needs to come off to be replaced so you will need to remove the bumper, rad and intercooler to get the best access. Obviously this will be more expensive route (approx Ł500 for new turbo) so make sure your fault diagnosis is correct first.
You may be lucky once you remove the excess oil the problem will stop but you may have damaged something already.

hi all, been really busy lately lol
ive removed the boost pipe, top pipe from charge carrier and the bottom pipe and dere was loads of oil in them. the sharft in the turbo has got quite alot of up and down play in it, so does this all point to a new turbo?
if so, wat turbo wud be best?
im runnin 10 psi wid a few mods i.e. exhaust, piper cam ..... ive got standard intercooler

I would check all the engine oil seals just to be sure.
Sounds like the turbo has had it. No point getting an uprated replacement without getting a better intercooler first. Autospecialist's one is good if on a budget cos a turbo will probably cost you Ł500 anyway.
Its normally not a good idea to get a second hand one of ebay cos it could have problems too.
