Default whats involved in runing a yb engine on a front wheel drive set on a rsturbo??

hi all, i may be taking on a project in which i may attempt to fit a yb into a starlet glanza v for a friend so i would like to know how its done on the rsturbos, i'm not interested in the engine pipe work etc as thats easy, its just the transmission i'm worried about...

it may be that on the starlet that we go for a rsturbo full hub, suspention setup the lot..

cheers

i know on the rst's a lot of the chassis on the drivers side has to be cut away and rebuilt to clear the cambelt side of the engine and anything other than an mtx series box would shit itself in no time also cambelt changes are impossible with the engine fitted
in a starlet i would have thought bulkhead mods will also be required for turbo clearance and maybe cut the top off the frontpanel and pin the bonnet to clear the inlet
also i wouldnt use the rst hubs as they eat bearings enough at low torque outputs never mind cossie power
and dont forget the mtx boxes are a big old box and again usually chassis mods are required for clearance unless you lower the whole engine and box

you can make starlets fast for the price you could get a yb engine for without any of the headache

the problem is all the toyota engine for 300bhp need forging which cost 2k plus the engine and then it becomes abit over modified for my friend liking...

my friend wants bompproof 300bhp on a stock engine... the yb is such a simple engine it looks like it would clear in the bay... its just the transmission.. so what boxes do people run on them?? wont a focus rs box go on they must take a beating!!

Mt75, so focus RS box etc....

Just out of interest, how much are you expecting a yb with 300brake to cost?

With all my spares i think we could buy a yb and run 300bhp for around 1600ish i thought the mt75 box was the 4x4 cossie box..

Yes sorry mate, typo, MTX75 is fords front wheel version of the mt75, so cars like modeos, focus rs's (not the st170). The focus rs comes with an atb too.

To be honest mate, i think you will stuggle to get the yb + running + 300 brake for £1600.... good engines seem to go for nearer 2K then you need management, better fuel system, gearbox, shit lot of welding etcetc. probably cost you £1600 minus the engine, weigh a ton and be worthless afterwords, which ford fan wants a jap car with a yb? and what jap fan wants a jap car with a ford engine?

Tell him to spend the money on another car buddy, even if it is jap. If he put the £1600 in with the starlet he could get a pretty decent car with 300brake already.

Good luck tho

alot of people are all about brand, ford, jap etc.. his starlet was 210bhp and it was super quick!! could keep up with my rwd escos with 450bhp up to top of 3rd gear. but now its thrown a rod beacause its a weak engine.. the reason he want to hang on to the car is because of the weight, so were thinking what 4 cylinder engine will be bombproof at 300bhp and very simple engineering... and the yb ticks the boxes... as for costs i have so many spares all i need is a working block and head!!lol

so will any mtx75box bolt straight to a yb??

YB would be shite for FWD 300bhp compared to a C20LET vauxhall motor or a VAG 20VT, terrible choice
