You will have to get the fueling checked to see if it is correct and the igition and the cam timing as i have found that so many times that has allways been slightly out!
these can be done by a local garage that has a gas analyser and timing strobe.
Back to a chipped ecu most will be either limited to something like 16psi max boost or unlimited boost chip.
on a standard good intercooler you can run about 14psi and reset the fueling to run slightly richer.
if your not sure what your setup is then maybe a trip to a tuner is required.

an s2 can boost up to about 9 -10 psi before the ecu will cut in, so if yours is doing that then you may not have a chipped ecu?

they set the fueling, timing, boost, and check for detonation.
You cannot safely adjust the boost yourself, and it does sound like your ecu is not chipped!
I'd get it setup mate, should cost around £150.
But this is specialist work and cannot be done by any old garage!

If you want to save some dosh and get a good setup then go see Jano @Oddkiddcreations who can sort that out.

do they also have calibrated boost measuring equipment and det monitoring equipment?
and most of all, do they know how to set these cars up?

not really specialist setting up the fueling on an mfi unit most mot stations know how to adjust for richness. timing has never been that hard either.

Take it to some one proper mate, a set up is a great way to keep the car reliable and safe. randomly turning up the fuel pressure etc is a great way to screw your car.

and tbh if its dropping that much pressure at the lower boost and the car is relatively original my money would be on a knackered actuator. Not very hard or expensive to change.
I recently had my car set up at torque of the devil and personally i was very happy. I paid £100 +VAT for an hour and a half and about 10 dyno runs, end result was 18psi turbo spooled up nearly 1000RPM earlier and the reassurance (most valuable thing) that the car was not running lean at any point.
Good luck

Cool, really sorry mate i was confusing you with another firm (M-Tec)!!! thats a shitty thing to say i know but i saw your name a knew i had read your posts before! foot in mouth and i am very sorry.
But regards to getting the car set up, do it dale, now that i have removed my arse from my face and thought for a few moments! motorsport developments has a very good reputation, and a pretty good web site its well worth it. I smiled a lot on the way home when mine was sorted!

ahh, do the mot stations drag there workshop co machine along behind them to check the fuelling under full load then?
do they also have calibrated boost measuring equipment and det monitoring equipment?
and most of all, do they know how to set these cars up?

Sorry mate but no. There is more to it than just turning the CO adjuster. And Jano from odd kids is a specialist.!.! so i assume it will be more like the figure karlos quoted any way.

Rob,
If the oil pressure light works.... yes

Jano only charges £50 to set up MFI. He basically makes no money on MFI set ups so he can get further buisness off people later down the line for things such as management conversions.

I think there's a problem on the car somewhere. The fact that the boost drops to about half of what it was I'd say the amal valve is engaging and switching to low-boost. Either cause it's knackered or because there is a fault in the electrics or some other sensor. Or - as mentioned above, the spring in the actuator has gone weak.
Adjusting fueling is a piece of cake if you have a wideband lambda to check the result. You just take of the pressure actuator (black box on the metering unit). Make sure you don't lose the O-rings and remove the big normal screw on the back of it. Behind it is the adjustment screw (allen type). Clockwise makes it richer, anti-clockwise leaner. However it's very senstive and get's even more so, the further you turn it. A 1/4 of a turn already does quite a lot.

With a rolling road and a wideband lambda..... thats why a local grease monkey cant do it
You can do it on the road but need somewhere you can get up to around 90mph (or whatever RS's do in 3rd @ 6400rpm), a laptop, a WBO2, and have to pull over to make adjustments every time!

Never had tuners use wideband to setup my rst and not had a problem with any of them.
