Can't imagine HIDs would work in an Escort, they're designed for projector style headlights after all....

And as I said:

as noticed. the front RS TURBO LIGHT units factory 80spec has a inside light protector and rules out the above. so yes they are legal.

I've had mine checked my VOSA. the law... above the police. as mine last went in for an inspection and the HIDs flagged up was told to change the camber of the light unit down a little. and then was told they dont need any of the above because the early 80spec standard ford light fittmens have the snow white cristal lense that dims them from glear. its the main inside front light protector.

so do you have washer jets for the lights?
and do you think the s1 lights would be ok to fit xenon?

They still don't have a self leveling system and washers though. Plus the S2 has later spec lights without any "protectors" and the lens is designed for an standard light bulb not a high power gas burner bulb.

I've actually got a new set sitting somewhere!

Used to use 130W H4s in my first Mk3 Escort. They worked great and didn't flare out either. Ran heavier cabling and used extra relays for them though.... Oh yeah and they're illegal, but no cop's ever going to know

Fitted my HID kit today and there fucking quality! Avoided the Ł20 sets off ebay that are obviously going to be shit, paid abit more and got some with a 2year warranty. They dont dazzle on-coming traffic or flicker. I set the beam up nicely at my mates garage an they look proper good. Got the 4300k set so they are white, they look wank when there blue. Think the company is called ultra and i would recommend them to anyone

fitted mine aswell over the holidays and i really can't believe how much the old lights were draining the power from the car! the xenons don't do this at all! my clock lights are now brighter and i can now see the blue high beam light cleary. the light is unreal and just makes the old system look out of date. would agree buy cheap and you buy crap.
Bought 6000k as they are not as blue and the beam can be adjusted to a non blinding level.

From what I've seen the Ł20 kits do seem to be identical to the Ł100+ kits in build quality and performance though

new lenses and fresh bulbs are great, that's what i did in my xr2, still keep thinking of trying HID's though.
would love to see an older car with them fitted to convince myself to do it first though.

this might be a silly question but, can you still flash your lights and get main beam?

I got it from a guy on piston heads mate, i got his number as he gives a warranty with the kit. Cost me 70quid, but a very good quality kit, with hi/lo beam, relays slim ballast h4, twin strap grounds, and all plug and play. 6000k which give a more whiter blue beam.
Takes approx 30mins to fit and you retain the same h4 mounts no mods required, the only thing i did mod were the rubber caps that go on the back of the headlamps to stop water getting in but that's a 2 min job to make the hole bigger. the rest is just adding a + wire to battery and 2 ground straps to the car body or battery and then plug the loom into one of the bulb sockets to get the switches working.
YOU will need to get a beam aligner to get the beam correct as there is no way to set that yourself.
