Argh. aftermarket xenonsets belong to some stupid hondas.
Do you know your crappy hid systems do glare and blind other motorists. Trust me.

Are you sure aftermarket xenons are legal in U.K? Here in Finland aftermarket xenon kits are illegal and direct failure in mot unless you can fit headlight washers & automatic headlight position adjuster system. Basicly if you have projectors hids wont blind anyone, but in normal type headlamp hid system blind every other motorist.

I was sure HID conversions were illegal in the UK, due to the fact that the light wavelength and pattern is completely diferent to a normal bulb, therefore they are not compatible with the stock deflectors in the lenses??
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure it came up on a TV program not so long ago.

they are classed as illeagal wiring. MOT tester may pass them if the beam is aligned, as thats all he has to check. VOSA however will rape you if they pull you over as the lamps need to be auto adjusting and have washers.

Biggest load of shit I ever did to mine. Never did get them set up right. Using a proper MOT beam aligner, there was no beam pattern atall, so nothing to align. They sent light in all directions.

do you think thats just on erst? just put a set on my mates starlet and adjusted up fine.

they arnt supposed to be used on cars with frosted headlight lenses like the s2 as the beam pattern is all wrong. but they are legal to use on cars with clear headlights. i fitted an 8k set to mine in feb 08 and managed to adjust them up fine and went through mot no problem. i think your only likely to get bummed if you go for 10k or 12k as theyre the total wrong colour. just remember to try your best to aline them so you dont blind every other road user!

I have had no problems with my 8ks. There low beam as i really dont need them for high beem..
Fog wise there fooking SHIT... too bright.. but on a good clear none foggy day they are MINT.
all you need to know when buying them is that they are H4. simple as that ford prong fitment. and ive not changed my fuse like it says. taken me about 5min to get working but abit longer to rapped up and hide.
Ill go take some photos now. as the others dont really show much

yet so do BMW's? and most new cars with them eh?.....
your problem as i cant see them.. they light up the road better than the std lights.
and mine passed its MOT last with them, and no they are not illegal. they have a cover, on standard RS light units they have a snow white light cover that means they are not illegal

they are illegal unless you have the auto levelling system and washer system,it says so on the directgov website. you can probably pass an mot but they are illegal. i fitted them to a s13 last weekend, they look good, dont shine up or throw light all over the place, and he hasnt been flashed by any other drivers.i dont think id fit them to my rst though

It's all here boys:

And as I said:

http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps
1. The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory.
2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam.
3. The headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly like any other headlamp.

And as I said:
If a customer wants to convert his vehicle to Xenon HID he must purchase completely new Xenon HID headlamps. The reason for this is that the existing lens and reflector are designed around a Halogen filament bulb, working to very precise tolerances. If one places a HID "burner" (bulb) in the headlamp, the beam pattern will not be correct, there will be glare in some places and not enough light in other places within the beam pattern.

its definatly illegal to use hid's with out washers and auto adjusters. in the vosa testing manual you must fail cars fitted with hids that dont have auto headlight adjusters and washers.
also my lights were poo so i rewired them with a direct battery feed swithched by a relay (switched by the original power supply) and baught some desent bulbs and there spot on now. just as good as any new car. also tho my headlamps are quite new so the reflective paint on the inside is very good.
its cheaper than hid's and is totaly legal

Id also say dont do it. They really arent worth it on an Escort. The headlight unit wasnt designed to run them, so a decent bulb set will work far better. First thing i did was take the Xenons off Christians shell when i brought it.lol

Mind you a new unit and decent bulbs and "actually having 12V at the bulb" helps
