shiney stuff plans
first off,
keep finding myself drawn to the shiney stuff, rocker covers , plenums etc
could anyone tell me how the hell you can get it so shiney?
i'm thinking of doing it myself, but i think the process will be different on the cover, as this is metal, how can you stop it from rsuting once its done?
how do you polish alloy? some of you may know i've got a yellow strut brace, i'm thinking of stripping it, and polishing it up, is this possible?
also of thinking of puting a threaded tap in the back of the inlet plenum to take an act temp gauge, or would it be better to tap into the cross oveer pipe, i just don't like the idea of 2 many bits coming off the vacum hoses on the inlet plenum
any ideas?

First of all you cant chrome parts yourself, its a chemical process, and as you said it does rust eventually. polished alloy is similar effect and you can do it yourself but it will go dull quickly unless you keep ontop of it. literally everything marks it, even water leaves spots on the bloody stuff i've never highly polished something myself though.
i'd tap the charge carrier for the ACT, simply because its easier to do it off the car and get rid of swarf. you dont want it being sucked through your engine and turbo!
But just remember, Chrome dont get you home! Personally, i'd pick a colour scheme and go with that, get parts powdercoated and then get some alloy polished parts to accent it and show it off more. i think that looks more modern than a full chrome bay, thats very 90's imo.

i know what you mean, its a job to know where to stop,
like the idea of the inlet, rocker cover being done, and stainless hoses, then leaving it really, just polishing a lot!
