Default s1 vs s2 suspension.?.?

As im sure you've guessed im pretty new to this rst lark, i know the suspension set up of the two cars is different, but i don't know in what way, and which is better?

I have heard of a few people retrofitting S1 suspension to a S2 but wasn't sure why????

rs1600i is the best front suspension i beleive, lot of people put this on mk4s and 3s

not too sure on the back though, id of thought S2 as it has thicker anti roll bars

In general the S1 and S2 shocks and springs are both the same. They will fit mk3 or mk4 cars, inc the same (mk3 Escort) shape orion either way.
The standard S1 suspension was harder and more motorsport based whereas the S2 was manufactured softer to appeal to the up & coming yuppie generation who couldn't afford Porsche cars but wanted something quick and more affordable but still daily drive-able, so had a less aggressive and noticable bodykit & spoiler and softer suspension for town driving.

After market upgrades now make little difference as the kits will fit and work on both cars. You will also find it difficult to buy new original suspension for both cars and if you find some it will be quite expensive, especially compared to uprated equipment. The concours and S1 purists will definately want the original parts so they become more expensive due to lack of new stock.

they can be fitted on a s2 but you will need to change to the s1 gearbox and mounts

or find a tt rollbar

You need to have a MK3 or MK5 Escort gearbox end casing or full gearbox for starters. You also have to to drill 2 new holes in the front panel and one new hole in the OSF chassis rail as not all the holes from the origional S2 ARB mounts line up. These 3 holes will also need metal tubes inserted between the tops and bottoms of the front panel to stop the panel crushing when the bolts are tightened as they will work loose otherwise.

Not a hard job really and very worth it.
