I wouldnt of said it was det? certainly never seen it that bad anyway, and only ever on the inlet side of the piston? that wouldnt explain the bigger gouges or bent plug tho would it?

it looks too clean to me despite the damage, like it's had lots of fuel going in?

Really??
If that is the case what would cause only one cylinder to Det that bad and the others not at all??

Thats what I was thinking.
Well there would of been plenty of fuel going through on the 2 miles I drove home on 3 cylinders! lol

when an engine suffers det and you don't realise it could be a while till effects are known, a plug could melt and force it to change shape.
i dunno, i know i've done pistons like that, not quite as bad though, but it was a throw away engine as rings were gone and i had a replacement ready.

fuel shortage, the others look like they've been overfuelling, maybe an injector isn't supplying enough fuel.
afr readings will do the overall reading not individual cylinders.

i wouldn't worry too much till you've had the valves out and fully checked turbo for damage.

Yeah, cheers for your comment mate and everyone else too!

I think after sleeping on it, it would be silly to break after all the hard work i've put in so fix it and finish it is the plan!!

Going outside to whip the valves out and take some pics of the bore........
