Could it be any worse??!! That's a Ł640 NMS head thats just been written off

I'm thinking this may be the last straw and might break the car

I dont think it is, the bore is fine! No scoring, nothing except a very very small amount of pitting at the very top.

just get the chamber cleaned up and replace the valves, should be fine, granted the CR in that cylinder may drop a little.

before you panic, contact NMS with the pics, what pistons are they?
they should be easy to replace cheap enough.

second thoughts, have you compressed the valves in to see if the valve guide/seats are complete?

i've got spare pistons if you want to use a used one, you sure it's not lots of low impact det marks?
maybe one cylinder running lean?
i've never seen it that bad, but i have got 4 knackered oversized pistons with similar markings when running a carb turbo setup on the wrong dizzy on my xr2 turbo technics setup.

i'd definitely be pulling valves out to check then.
seats can break up, not common, or at least shouldn't be in that head.

if they are deep you can weld them up before you get it machined .

Oh that doesnt sound so bad!
Bore had very slight pitting around the top 1" IIRC defo no scoring, didnt look to hard as I was taken aback by what I had just found!
Will investigate more tomorrow and get some pics of the head with the valves out and of the bore.

At the very least then i'm looking at a head repair and new valves, replacement piston, bore hone and new rings all round.

I take it you've cleaned #4 piston and squish area on the head? as they look a lot cleaner than the rest?
