Default straight cut gearbox?

is it worth getting a straight cut box? wot are the benefits and disadvantages of going down this route? has anybody had experience with this box id love to know

your tranmission losses wont be as great

you will need ear plugs at high revs aswell

i had a jack knight straight cut dog box in my mini,sounded like a stuka dive bomber................very noisey but stronger.......

i understand the box is very loud,almost sounds like the box is bolloxed,but how would it affect the drive?

as said above your loses that normally are in your tranmission will be less. But you almost won't notice it

I've just bought a straight cut box but haven't used it yet but its going to be hell on motorways on the way to shows as the ratios are shorter so it will rev harder and the gears themselves whine.

If you pay the £1800 for a new set I think you can, but £500 second hand I'll have whatever ratios are going

I fancy one but am I right in thinking it does nothing as regards making the bc box any stronger?

Motorcycles do whine, but the gears are smaller so are quieter. My old fellas 1300 Superblackbird certianly does lol

If the strength of the gears was the only issue. Also, there is hardly an abundance of manufacturers out there chomping at the bit to make RS Turbo gearsets, let alone 300bhp+ ones, therefore those that do (Quaife et al) don't rate their stuff anywhere near highly enough and certainly don't have a versatile choice of ratio's to suit anything other than an all-out track-car.
