driving home from work on the motorway today and the rs just dies, so had to pull over on hard shoulder. tried to fire it up again and nothing, just kept turning over. i left it for a while and it started again. this happened three times on the motorway, any one have any ideas what it could be??

It cut out whilst still on the accelerator? or when you lifted off the pedal?

I think i remember the posts now mate yea.... The only way mine used to do that was because of the airleak from the dumpvalve. When the engine was warm, the leak got worse as things expanded and allowing more air out.

Im guessing yours started again after it had cooled down a bit?

i dont think its an airleak, probably takes 3-4 mins to get started again if i keep it turning over. its strange and hard to explain really.

So far you could be forking out for a new relay, new crank sensor, new dizzy.... Sean, just get it to a tuner and get it set up. They'll figure it out fairly quickly, rather than going by 'could be this or that'.

I ain't knocking peeps at all, but this issue has gone on for ages now and is getting worse. I'd get it looked at professionally mate.

Oh and is that your rs on your profile? if it is!

I'm not sure as to why it'd be the dizzy unless it packs up mid flow... But surely if it's knackered it wouldn't work at all. Choose the cheapest option first and make your way up the list till it's sorted. Rota arms are what, £3! Clean plugs too for a
nice freebie lol Its always the small things that sort the large problems

love what you've done to your RS tho Sean. Merc grey defo the best

next time it refuses to start pull the king lead off the dizzy cap and fit a spare plug and turn the car over to see if you get a good spark, if so then reconnect the king lead and pull off a plug lead and fit the plug and try again, this will let you know if your coil or dizzy are on the way out

yeah man. the only difference is one primes, one doesn't.
just the ones that dont might need and extra crank on a cold morning.
