Default Induction Cone or Standard Air Box?

I've recently removed my PiperX induction air filter and seen it split on the under rubber, so was about to replace it when i read somewhere that the original airbox is a better bet than another cone filter - Is this true?

The only way that i can think of this as the truth is that the original airbox shields all heat from the filter meaning better air is being sucked thru the system, rather than warm air the cone will suck. This is just a newbie guess!

Has anyone here exchanged their cone for an airbox again? Is it better?

Yes your right, the original air box tends to pick the air feed up from behind the head light.. were if you are using a cone filter it pulls air from the general engine bay... and as it sits not to far from the rad hot air from that as well....Cheers

Well thats what i was thinking of doing, but then i didnt want to go thru the bother of messing with ram pipes if it wasnt really going to do much difference than a standard box would.

So what im getting from this is yes, i was correct about the hot air being sucked in, but then if i run a cold air feed from the front of the car direct to the PiperX filter, this would be better still?

Ok then, another question... Vector style filter or standard cone with silver lid style?

Vector:

Standard cone:

Also, would one of those air filter shields be worth the money? Im guessing that would help with shielding some of the hot air?

neither, personaly i went for the pipercross viper, that way the filter it 100% sheild'd from any engine heat and the only way for it to get air is through the cold air feed

theres probably 100's of pro's and cons to each air filter choice, but i found the pipercross was alot better over standerd air box and standerd k+n

it didnt turn my car into a rocket ship mind but it seems to run better
