Default Cold starting problems

When starting my RS Turbo from cold i always have to turn the engine over and over to get it to start, once its fired up its ok even if i turn it off straight away and then go to start it up again before its had chance to warm up. Initially i thought it would be the cold start valve but the fact that i can turn it off as soon as it fires up and then re-sart it before it warms up makes me think it may be something else causing the problem.
Anybody got any ideas??
