Default Head Gasket Woe.

Well the head gasket went on my car tonight, that said i am raving.

I'm looking to replace it with a decent steel one. what's the recommended make and the same for head bolts. Also one final question, where can i buy them both from ?

Would it handle the power of the car then, its a bored out and low comp engine. Would this make a difference. Thanks so far.

PS - CVH gaskets very rarely go - if it has, it suggests some sort of overheating issue, or the block and/or head isn't true. Check these before u fit a new one.

What do you mean when you say the block / head isn't true.

I'm useless when it comes to this sorta thing.

Just use std ford bolts and a std ford gasket cant go wrong no need waste money on arp bolts

when he says not true he means the head is more than likely warped causing the gasket to fail- the ford/payen one is proven to 300+ bhp so i'm sure it'll do the job just be sure to have the head checked and skimmed if needed

Right, i have decided the cars coming off the road for a full engine rebuild and restoration of the engine bay. Watch the project section for updates.

Standard gasket with standard bolts torqued according hayness. I do run 21 psi on that for five years already do you need any other proof. But as said above check why she went there has to be something wrong, they don't go just like that.

As Rick said,


Std gaskets fail due to other reasons usually.

Go payen gasket and non strench bolts, with head skim and block checked for true'ness.
