I had one and they are overbored and stroked 1.6 engines for this reason they are not as strong as the engines using the american long block, I personally found the engine unwilling to rev.
Mine was running about 230 bhp at the time it went bang.
Although this was measured on PE rollers so it was probably a bit optimistic
I would prefer a decent 1.6 over a PE 1.9

To be honest I had problems with the engine from the moment it was built and recieved little from power engineering in terms of compassion, support or assistence, with comments being made about the way I drive and use the engine being contributed as reasons for my problems.
I eventually had a engine built by Tony Mannock of turbosystems which is a 1.6 and actually made the car more enjoyable to drive and perform better, this was over five years ago and that engine is still the same one in my car... it still sounds sweet as ever.
I actually live withing walking distance of PE and would rather call the AA if my car broke down outside the place.
I have no intention of reliving all my issues with PE as they were a long time ago when they were doing Sierra 4x4's with sprintex superchargers.
Since this time the workforce has changed and as such negative comments would only effect peoples perspective of those who work there now which is unfair.
I just hope they have improved and enjoy reading about positive experiences from this company and hope that they have changed enough to no longer treat customers with the contempt I feel I was

I had a Power Engineering System Two in my car and towards the end of its life I was running 28psi on 5th injector set up (its was a Dark Green). The big ends let go, still got it in my shed - In my experiance it was a good motor, one I tweeked the cam timing.

I'm running a Ferriday Engineer motor in my XR2turbo, I'm running 21psi at the moment, it's the standard 1800CVH crank but has Fardon steel rods, good for 350+bhp by all account.
Is your block a 1.6,1.8 or 1.9, it say's on the back of the block, top middle.
Mines bored +0.5mm which make it a 1820cc, The 1.8 block is a few mm taller (about 8-10mm) than the 1.6,
1.6,1.8 have different lenght rods, so i would guess that the 1.9 would be a bit longer again.
If it is defo a 1.8 crank and the blocks a 1.6 or 1.9 then the standard rods would be wrong as standard items.

its defo the 1.6 block, i done big end bearings 4 weeks ago this is how i know the size of the crank and about the pistons but could not identify the rods, i had to send the old big end bearings off to get them mached up as they was not standard size items.
