Sump gasket leaking....
....I've tried 3 times to get this to seal and still i have a oil leak from the gearbox side!
Changed my big end shells and so got a new genuine ford gasket but just cant get it to seal properly, any tips or tricks i should know about?

As above and dont overtighten the bolts.
I also find a small ammount of thread lock on the bolts helps to stop them working loose over a period of time.

use some spray glue to make the gasket stick to the sump, wipe away any overspray as u dont want it gettin into the oil, offer up the back right hand side of the sump first, keep an eye on the gasket in the half moon section of the sump as it can move slightly, use some lock thread on the bolts and just nip them up then a week or 2 later check to make sure they havent come loose
this is what i do on all the sump gaskets ive done and ive never had one leak

i got a payne one on mine, and the bastards leaks
i torqued it up as per the manual as well. bastards leaking in 2 places, front under the turbo and at the gaerbox end.
im going to take it off and put gasket sealer on my new one. Hope that will fix it.

Dont forget though the sumps are very weak, if theyve been over torqued in the past they will bend out of shale and never seal right,
Same story with the rocker covers.
I'm all for fitting a Zetec sump if some cunt would get me the pictures im after no names mentioned *cough cough* chunt69

try the following:
get a one piece rubber gasket for the xr3i
get some high quality high temp silicone , dont bother with the local spares shop house brand , usually "Fong Kong" crap! - you poms make some good shit
use a big centre punch(+-12MM) with a blunt point
tap the holes from the top down , bending the holes inward slightly
clean all surfaces thoroughly!!
silicone
gasket
tighten until the silicone squishes out slightly
leave to dry overnight
nip
sorted!!!
