fuel tank issue
question:
whats actually holding the fuel tank on guys? a strap and some bolts, the problem at hand is a leak, coming from the top of the tank somewhere, i suspect the tank might be cracked, but the possiblity of a leaking fitment or pipe/hose could also be the cause.
i see brand new alloys tanks on ebay for £60 is that a reasonable price?
if its a fitment can i get them from ford?
cheers
Chris

3 bolts hold it on. The strap is hooked in at one end and bolted at the other and 2 more bolts hold the tank on. There is only a breather pipe coming from the top of the tank. Easy to take off if you got some ramps or a pit. This goes for my S1, i presume S2's are the same

i'll be attempting it with 2 4 ton jacks and axle stands, will i have enought room to get a look in?
would you say its more likely the tank is damaged at the top then if the breather is the only exit at the top?

Axle stands will give you enough room to get the tank off. Disconnect the battery BEFORE you do anything though Try and get the tank as empty as you can before removing (obviously) If you know it's definately leaking from the top then it's either where the breather comes out or the tank is damaged. I have a spare tank. PM me if you are interested

could be the seal from the fuel tank sender as that fits in top
doubt the tank will be cracked would need to take quite a impact to crack it and it wouldn't be at the top?
