But like everything before EEC-V it's a read-only memory. So if you want to modify it, you have to solder another chip into it.

mate do not go for the ahmed bajoo chip! thats wat i got at the moment. thing is its retarding the ignition and not allowing enough fuel in, which is losing me about 20bhp.
Go for a unlimited boost chip imo.

All 'chips' are 'unlimited' boost
Anyone who tells you any different should be avoided like the plague.

In a RST, don't mix up the fuelling system and the ignition system which are two totally independent systems.
Fuelling is handled by KE-jetronic, a mechanical fuel injection (MFI) system by Bosch, which isn't completely mechanic because it has a electronics control box. You can't really call it an electronic computing unit ECU because it doesnät compute anything. It has nothing digital in it and certainly no programmable chips. So, back to the question, "can you live map an MFI ecu?", no you really possible can't.
The ignition is handled by ESC-II unit which on the contrary is digital and has a programmable chip. IMO, this alone makes it possible to live map, not sure if anyone does it, but it certainly has nothing to do with the type of chip, as the chip itself does not need to be used in the live mapping, but an emulator. But then again, and for abvious reasons, the chip of the ESC-II unit can do nothing for the MFI.

Jesse - the problem is that the data is stored in the processor itself, not in an EPROM.

All chips are not "Unlimited Boost" Some raise the limit but do not remove it.
