Default Rattle wont go away !!!!!!!

Need some help guy's before i crack up. Just lately there has been this really annoying rattling noise coming from the engine somewhere. At first it sounded like it was coming from under the rocker cover, so wiped that off, and there were a few rockers that were lose, so torqued them back up thinking job done.

Took her for a rip this morning and the rattle is still there. It sounds like something is lose, it's a very fine metal rattle, which made me check the exhaust housing and around, all seems tight, although i have not given it a proper going over yet.

I am worried as i don't know what this noise is, could it be a five min job or a serious problem, and not knowing means that driving it to check could also be bad.

Any suggestions would be great, is there anything else that it could be that anyone can think off, it's driving me crackers.

Cheers guys

m8 I have exactly the same problem on my S2, its a nightmare but I seem to have sourced the rattle, I think.......
I found it to be coming from underneath the turbo, on the stem that runs off the actuator(not 100% sure if thats what the part is but it definetly was coming from there)
it sounds like a very light metal scraping/crackling/vibrating noise which seems to be some kind of fixing with a spring and i think a small nut and washer. get the car up on a ramp or axle stands and start it up.
From underneath the car reach up and grasp the fixing and if this is the cause you should find that the rattle is silent when you have hold of the fixing components.
hope this is of use

Dan what exhaust system are you running???

I had the same problem on mine which was drivin me mad as it out rattled when it was on tick over but as soon as you accelerated it went away. Found it to be the downpipe had split where it funnels to go onto the turbo. Mine was a mongoose system which this supposidly is common with when you boot it off the line alot!

I fixed mine by rewelding it up and fitting an expansion piece in the system to take the movement

Hope you find it soon mate as i kno it drives u nuts

Default rattle

if the bearings in the alternator are gone, it will make this rattle sound. Just loosen the belt and then turn the alternator pulley with your hand, if it does not turn freely then it is the alternator.

Jonny Boy rs, thank for the advise, i have a mongoose system as well, so l will defiantly give it a good going over when i get the chance.

Gambit, Funny you should suggest the alternator, coz while driving listening to the noise, it dose seem as tho it is coming from the drivers side somewhere, so i will check that asap, you could well be right.

Cheers fella's
