You don't want Ford ones, they are pants. I can't remember who makes the decent ones, I think it may be Piper.... Hold on, Piper make something decent??? Surely not
It may be your turbo that causes the smoke too, just so you know.

If it's only smoking from cold I would start with the stem seals. Go to Ford and get the one piece top hat type seal. You will also need a valve spring compressor. I would take all the spark plugs out to make turning the engine over by hand easier (you need to bring the piston you are working on to the top of its stroke to prevent the valve dissapearing into the combustion chamber). Also push a rag into the oilways of the valve you are working on as dropping a valve collet into the engine is a right fucker.
It should only take about 2 hours to do.
Be wary the car may struggle to start as oil is allowed to get into the chamber when the old seals are removed.

I thought it was the two piece ones that were th naff ones to be avoided and that was why Ford revised them to th esingle piece top hat design.
Might be a million miles off though

That's why I said I think. Don't take my word for it, I play computer games for a living, ask someone who builds engines
But I have been told by several people not to get them from Ford.

I run the one piece top hat ones on mine and they seem fine
The job isn't very hard at all mate, as Oranoco says, remove the plugs and put a rag in the oil ways (i have a collet floating around in my sump ), and remember to do numbers 1 & 4 first, then spin the bottom end over 180 degrees and do numbers 2 & 3.
It's not very hard mate you should be fine
Oh and Oranoco ive had my pistons ABDC, the valves are just slightly too long to get lost

Well..............i did it intenionally. Long story cut short i did a LOT of work to the car, started it up and it was pissing out with smoke and i found a vlave guide had slipped down, so i thought i may aswell try the best i could before taking the head off, ended up cracking the guide so it came off anyway.
Definately wouldn't recommend it anyway just incase

Thats definately a good plan, the only thing you will find is some of the collets will be very tight and will push the valves open, where as normally you use the pistons to pop them free
