Default Ignition amplifier

spent whole day cleaning the engine bay, noticed the ignition amplifier's heatsink looked a bit dull, ,took it off and gave it a bit of polish. There are some dried up white sticky stuff on the heatsink where it contacts the amplifier, do I need to reapply the stuff? I think it's there for better contact, but what is it?

Its a paste that helps transmitt the heat to the heat sink. I'd recommend putting someback on if you have removed it all.Its similar stuff that people use when building P.C.'s & you put it under the heat sink on the processor.

Maplin or RS Componenets would sell it I would of thought.

right, in that case I better not use the car until I get some of that gluey stuff

I really don't want to become a buffty, but when everything is shiney, it just looks great

As said MAPLIN do it, several different types/sizes, only a few quid for smallest tube which is plenty.
