From personal experience the fiesta will handle better in the dry. But in the wet the extra weight will help the Escort

I'd say the Escort all day long personally.

Mk3 fiesata ain't renowned for their great handling

Plus the FRST doesn't have a LSD

hi mate , iv got both and can absolutly say thers no comparison ... the erst wins hands down on every thing
frst ..has no abs ..no lsd.. to high gearbox ratio
i would go as far as saying the frst is dangarous and ford did half a job on it

Yeah, even tho i've never driven a FRST, i'd say the Escort is probably a lot better due to the abs etc etc as said above

Sorry i've got to say this, but, i've got both too, and for me, the fiesta is better. Maybe it's just the way my car is set up though at the moment.

I've been in some very good handling escorts over the years though but driving what i've got, ERST on coilovers and FRST on another package the FRST feels better round the twisties. To me. Every cars different though i suppose.

Fiesta is more practical though and not quite a handful as much as the Escort is.

hi mate, if you look at both cars from standard the fiesta is very poor in deed, the high ratio gearbox thay put in the frst is just to high and the t2 gets right on my tits comin on boost to quick and running out of boost to early, the erst is right in every way , i think if ford had put alot more into the frst it cud of been a great car but to many things let it down iv got a mint frst that cost me Ł4,300 so its a perfect car.. but after driving both the erst is in a diff class
i think you need to spend alot of money on changing the gearbox over and putting a t3 on but its the genral ride when driven hard the frst strugles, but the erst will do this all from standard

Iv'e had both and would say the escort deffo imo Feels much more safer than my fiesta did, My fiesta used to scare me round bends Plus when you start getting over 100 in a fiesta they don't feel to imo Where in a escort you get that same feeling when your just about of the clock lol

Forget the fact that I own one ( ) but a sorted S1 handles better than any Fiesta or other FWD Escort. But it has to be set up properly.........as standard ? Still say the Escort (either S1 or S2).

I have both a FRST and an ERST and both are driven hard. Can't say which handles better to be honest. Wouldn't have said there was much in it. Both as standard I would say both were pretty equally wank

I can jump in and out of either and paste the nuts off them without much problem. Thing that is gutting is my A4 estate runabout seems to have a better turn in than either of them

Thanks, pretty much what I thought, I've only had ERST's the last one already having a Koni kit on it.

Very tempted to get another, but was thinking about a FRST.

Problem with both these cars, is all the geometry is nearly always shagged. Sean RS Fiesta impressed me a lot on track last week, it's got spax shocks, decent tyres, and the geomerty and bushing is spot on. End of the day, the Escort has independant rear suspension, but there are some fundamental issues to sort out first. Don't forget, the Escort will always feel like it doesnt want to turn in because of the LSD. It's the first thing i noticed when i drove one.

I'd say the Escort handles better as standard due to the IRS but the Fiesta can be sorted out, much the same way a mk4 Escort can.

I spent loads on my old FRST's suspension and I got a mk4 Escort Cabriolet as a runaround and was so pissed off when I found it handled better!

how come the lsd reduces the turn in ability of the car. surely if thats the case, what was the point of putting it in

It is designed for traction powering out of a corner. It will try and make the wheels turn at the same speed, hence making it feel like it wants to stay in a straight line. The car will still turn in fine, it's just u can feel the resistance in the steering wheel.

Yep what he said - Quaife diff made mine feel alot heavier on the front. The grip available afterwards was well worth it though - just go down the gym and work on your forearms!
