Default Help required to set up stage 3 saff on closed loop

I have been trying to get the car set up for a while now and seriously thinking about a trip to Blackpool but it is a wee bit far. I could not get the boost to rise above 14 psi until Stu advised me there was a restrictor in the Amal valve. I drilled this out .5mm at a time and was getting the boost up. I got it to 22psi peak and dropping off but then I got the chance of getting the bumpers painted so it was tucked up in the garage for a while. All I have done meantime is change the oil and filter and put on some Samco hoses and now I cannot get the car to boost more than 18 psi.

Now I am really sad and wondered if anyone could help me with any suggestions. Is the car safe to run 18 psi just now? I remember Stu's post stating if the tuner says to set it at 24PSI then thats what it HAS to be set at.

Please help me ?

could be the hot weather, not allowing it to boost. If it's one of stu's chips, then it'll be fine at 18psi.

Graham,
One thing to check here is that the amal valve isnt actually faulty.
Do this by trying her out unplugged, the boost should drop substantially, if not, it may well have an intermittent contact.

Other alternatives are airleaks etc etc... not easy to diagnose from afar sadly

Dangerous springs to mind.

If it were my own car with closed loop, i would be trailoring the car to STU.

Whats the point in risking an engine for the sake of a 250mile drive?

Jus IMO

I agree with ya mate really I do however you wil understand the need some people have for how things work and I am one of those people. I am the same at work, I do not accept "it works" but need to know how and like the satisfaction of being able to do things myself.

I also understand it is hard to diagnose only by my explanation. I checked the amal whilst the car was running and it did click when removed. I am suspecting an air leak somewhere as I was getting it up to 22 psi on the boost gauge before I put the Samcos on. I will give it a quick go and then if that dont work I think a trip is in order. How busy are you during the week these days?

Thanks all

Graham

It sounds like the problem has started since you fitted the samcos. If it were me i would check all the pipes and make sure everything is 100% before driving all that way as you explained.

I understand what you mean about knowing what people change and check etc.. but if yo take it to Stu im sure he would give you the reason and explain how and why etc.. So you would find out in the end and know for next time

I do think you should check the engine bay for leaks tho. An easy way to do this is go to a tire shop and ask for a tire valve. Drill a hole in a plastic cup etc.. then fit the tire valve to the cup. Then place the cup into an end of a boost pipe.

If you use a normal bike pump and pressurise the system you will be able to find the leak.
