I love the sound, wouldn't change it for the world.

what's the problem with atmospheric dump valves anyway. it's a sound at the end of the day. does it do vehicles damage?
I beleive it can in some circumstances cause the turbo to overspeed and that can in turn do damage.
I run 25psi on my Stage 2 hybrid T3 and don't/won't use a DV. ERST's do not respond well to the addition of a DV. FRST's are better but as has been said so many times they serve bugger all purpose on most road applications.
I would honestly not bother but it's each persons choice. I'd rather spend the cash on something that enhances the performance though

My understanding - which will probably be shot down in flames, but at least i'll be put right by the amount of knowledge on here - is dump valves were originally designed for very high performance engines running huge turbos with big boost figures.
Dump valves - atmospheric as opposed to recirculating were designed to alleviate the pressure on the system as high boost was unsuitable when a gear change happens. I've heard rumour of it stopping the fins on a turbo from shattering under high pressures but i honestly thing that's twaddle - either that or a very early problem within turbo development.
As for the sound. you can get valves that recirculate and give an atmospheric dump but i'm sure die-hard performance enthusiasts will lean towards completely recirc valves for obvious reasons.
I didn't realise there was so much of an anti-atmospheric feeling on here.

Dump valves were invented by Saab in the 70's as a Noise Surpressant device. The chatter was deemed to annoying for road applications, so they fitted a reciring d/v.
Do they do anything for the preformace, turbo life or reliability of your car?
Nope.
Do they sound stupid?
Yup.
Dump valves are also really bad for the MFi Escort Turbo. You'll notice the car runs alot better without it.

I was driving when I was 11
So you could be 16 for all I knew
Anyway that was just a huge generalisation of things that impress people in certain age groups. No harm meant
If your worried about the noise it makes stick a tin can over it , or go ask your 99.99% of people you know if they have one you can lend to try it out.
But the short answer is yes.

i swear it was loads better, i was a dump valve lover once upon a time, then matt bell showed me the error of my ways and told me to bin it, was loads better and i'll never have another, was the first thing i did to my astra when i got it, ripped the d/v out and bunged in a bit of broom handle

when i take mine off the only differance it makes is the revs stop dropping below 900 rpm when you change gears at full boost... with it on it just dies... i presume its because my d/v goes on for too long, its abit like ptschhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhh at full boost... thats why i want to try a new one

stu sels themat the end of the day its a matter of choice, i love d/v
and remember ford put one on the cozzy standard with just 5/7 psi
this arguments been going on for years ,
everyone has a differant story as to who invented them, i was told by castle performance that thay were invented for the ford rally team to help the big boost cars change gear faster so the impeller doesent slow down inbetween gears, but i suppose some one will have another story
at the end of the day loads or sold and every mag you pick up has a fetured car with one on, if you went back a couple of years everyone hated cone filters but now ther accepted/ its just choice guys

Give me your address I'll send you my Bailey DV26 which is correct for your car. Still sounds stupid though....
i like d/v's i had mine before the damn movies came out, mine came from grahame goode along with a monster 57i, at just a tad under a grand. Sounds like a bomb hitting the street when i change gear, and I fookin love it. Dont think the OAP's like too much but who cares. It is def a love it or hate it thing, philsaph4x4 (my boss) stripped his off when he got his cossie. I'm no 16 year old either, so its not an age group thing in my case, i just love the sound.
