B+M shifter made a HUGE difference on my 3dr, one of the best mods i did, and i did em all

Transformed the feel of the car.

Was a bit clonky and could easy beat the syncros so no good if you want a soft pussy smooth change rather than a direct and fast as fuck one.

I wonder if the same can be said for the fwd kit's though - they must be different slightly?

I'd like to hear from people what they're like too Alex!

Cheers,

Andy

i have a b and m on my turbo and it is wicked

best mod ever, it can be a bit clunky and stiff at times, but give me that over the usual ford 'stirring porridge' shift

can catch you out though, have been embarassed on a few 2nd to 3rds whilst overtaking.

definately worth it though

For example i couldnt EVER get the 1st-2nd gear change when launching hard from a standstill, but with the B+M i could every single time.

Sould do 1st-2nd-3rd-4th-5th in an unbelivably quick time, used to have goons asking me if it was a sequential box it was so fast...

TIT

LOL

high boost low lag cars tend to have that sequential feel about them imo as its so fast between power on/off

and steve ive only ever seen you launch in 2nd gear

it wasnt that i was shit (promise ) it was cause my box was pretty fucked just wouldnt go into gear at all until the revs were right back down, but the B+M solved it, could literally ram the fucker in past the syncros

and i used to launch in 1st matt, then i realised there was another way

alex you could buy the bushes in the linkage seperate from fords which is what i did to mine it has made it like new and the best bit is it only cost Ł12 its only the bushes inside that wearout over the years and the springs inside which loose there tension. also to make it better you could find a GOOD second hand bar(the one with the universal joint which goes to the g'box) as the joint will have play in it over the years.

i was gunna get a b&m shifter for mine untill i felt one in a s2 and it was rubbish the lever was all over the place but the distance to get it in gear from gear is much shorter/ quicker BUT with the sloppyness of the lever its easy to get it in the wrong gear

Only thing that stops me keeping mine in for competition use is the fact I can hit reverse straight down from 5th. There is no gate to push the lever down over - in the heat of competition this could prove costly.

Throw is a lot shorter yes - but hardly any "quicker" lol.

Service from B&M direct was excellent tho, after mailing them some pics of my brand new one they had some new parts shipped out so I could fix it within 3 days

As per MSN mate if you want quick, smooth gearchanges that work EVERY TIME then refurb the standard linkage. Just think next time you've queued at the pod for 45mins plus and you miss a gear on the run.. your gonna be pissed off! Its just another bling gadget that you don't need.. (you know what ahmed thought of it )

I think they are pretty good for the Mk4 escort, because the linkage is complete shite anyway!

I makes the gears seem v. close when changing, when I drive an escort with a std linkage it feels awful, they're just miles away from each other.

I will say it takes a bit of getting used to!
Only other downside is I ended up with a massive vibration after installing it, had to pad it out with rubber!

Well it aint hard to take on and off so no real worries, about having to do it a couple of times to get it right!

Sorry no pics matey!

Just use the rubber that comes off of the old linkage, and cut out another one using that as a template.

ignore Jim....the gears are there SOMEWHERE!!

agree with Nuts....hard to find 4th from 5th as the reverse is noe straight down without having to push down....

but the shifter is VERY well made and transformed the car (when it was running)

but with my car fully stipped out, etc....its makes the car about 50% more noisey and sounds like you have a stright cut gearbox....Steve@SCC;s RS1800 is the same!!

Got one for me Porker and it's fantastic,it's a cable actuated change but with the B&M feels like a short T5 box, excellent. Was thinking about one for the saff but the T5 is a pretty solid shift anyway. DON'T buy from the UK tho! They are at least half the price in the USA,can get a T5 for $130. Get the part no of what you're after and try these:

I've got one on my 4X4 Saph and it's the best mod I've done. The gear change now feels more like a T5 gearbox.
I'll definitely be fitting one to my Escos!!
