Default Little overheating issue and maybe a new loom??

Evening All,

Well the Escort is coming up to nearly 12 months of ownership for me and it has cost a small fortune but its now MOT ready and although my first mechanic charged me the earth I have now found a fantastic local (ish chap) <img src=" class="post_inline_image" loading="lazy" />MAS in Crewe - Awesome guy!!

Usually the car gets hot and runs towards the H on the temp guage (H as in HIGH) but on Friday i took it out, 12 miles in and as soon as i came off the Motorway it went right through the red... I quickly stopped, no steam nothing looked out of the ordinary but...

The fans were not working... It has a twin fan set up.

Can anyone share the electric diagrams for the fans, i have checked where the fuse' should be and they are all ok but as this is a ZVH i am thinking maybe the electronics over the years are not great so as well as knowing about the fans has anyone ever replaced a loom??

Maybe i am going too deep into this -Any ideas as i will try anything....

Thank you

Mike

The fan wiring suffers (especially at 30+yrs old..).
Just use the original wiring as a relay trigger and create a small sub-loom (or buy one off ebay etc). Ensures you get battery voltage and reliability.

Same applies to the fuel pump

I tried to do this over the weekend, the fan wires i have found and they are connected into a brown and red/black wire, this wire then goes into the loom, i have checked all of the fuses and all look ok - Am i correct in thinking the fuse will be visably broken if its knackered!

Dam right, i would love to get new electrics in this, the wiring is def not the way i would want it, i will ask my mobile auto elec guy how much to put a new loom in!!

Thank you all for your help on this, by the way, anyone know what this is for in the photo below...

try bridging the fan switch on the thermostat housing to see if they turn on
best way as above is control them via a relay

I have asked my elec guy to come over at the weekend, as well as the temp issues the rear lights come on when the brake is pressed ha ha! Crazy car.

Just had another look around and found where i thought the temp sensor would be, nothing connected, there is a fixed loop so guessing this is where the fans have been wired to always be on??

I have found the connection under the twin fans so will un do this at the weekend and see if i have power - If it does ill get some new fans but still the photos dont look right, any ideas?

Def a trip to MAS on the cards, sooner than expected
