I dont know if its a coincidence but last weekend I fitted a steering rack to our ford focus and since then when your turning,mostly right the traction control will kick in and the light on the dash will flash. The steering wheel angle sensor is working fine and has been reset so when the steering in straight the sensor is reading 0.

There is no abs light on and there are no errors in the abs ecu.
The only thing I need to do next is check all 4 abs/wheel speed sensors. When cornering to see if a sensor drops off.

Anyone ever had similar problems with there cars??

Stretched ABS cables cause a heap of problems as many have discussed on the Focus RSOC forum, have a look at them mate, not saying it’s your problem here but worth a check

 

OK I will have a look. I just dont understand it. Surely if it was a faulty sensor or wiring the abs light would come on. When I dropped the sub frame to do the rack I didn't touch the struts or bottom ball joints.

 

I think I might of sorted it. The nsr tyre pressure was below 1 bar. I pumped it up then plugged the diagnostic tester into the car to check the wheel speed sensors and the car seems to be fine.

 

Nope the tyre pressures haven't fixed it. The car is still doing the fault but I don't think it's as bad.

 

Glenn have you had the alignment set and then reset the SAS?

 

Yeh ive reset the steering angle sensor. Ive set the tracking by eye. I keep meaning to stick my works tracking gear on to double check. I just can't see it being the tracking.

I drove the car today,the first time in a few days and the car drove horrible. Some how the steering wheel isn't straight and the car seems to pull to the right.

I'm in 2 minds to get a good second hand steering rack and fit that.

 

Set the tracking by eye, some how the steering wheel isnt straight, pulls to the right.

FFS man get the tracking ste on some decent equipment.

 

When I first adjusted the tracking the wheels looked straight and the steering wheel was straight.

I dont think the recon rack has been put together properly cause when I first put it on. There was no threads on the os and loads on the ns. I had to take the steering wheel off so I had equal threads each side.

Also when turning right the car/steering just seems to pull more. I've also go more turns to the right than I have to the left.

I'm picking up a second hand rack today so gonna fit that and see what happens.

I've fitted loads of racks in my time and never had a problem with the traction control before.

So you fitted the rack on the squiff basically.

This all just sounds like basic alignment issues. If you've got access to the gear, just whack it on. Screw changing racks again for the sake of 10mins alignment work!

 

Would have to drop the rack down to remove the gear anyway.
