Default Remote not locking doors after changing battery

Hi

I've a 2004 Fiesta LX with only one key.

I changed the battery yesterday and since then the remote unlock doesn't work. The key will open the door and start the car, so Im guessing the chip is still ok - its never given problems unlocking remotely before.

I've tried loads of online suggestions, key to II then I four times then hold the unlock etc but all to no avail. I get a beep which I believe indicates learning mode, but that's as far as I get.

Anyone got any other ideas please

Thanks

The partnership has been lost. You need to pair it via learning mode.

In that case, I would suggest the remote to be faulty.

Have you checked to make sure nothing has been disturbed inside?

Yep its exactly as it was when it was working seconds earlier. Literally opened it, carefully lifted the batter and replaced it. I believe they lose settings if the battery is out for 20 seconds and that may have been the case as I was being careful, but then you are supposed to be able to re programme it in learning mode which isn't working. Chip working as the key starts the car and opens the doors, just not the remote locking.
