Default Tarting up the engine bay...

I have a Series 1 RS low mileage in excellent condition etc, the only thing letting it down is the finish of certain engine parts.
Over the years some of the metal bits eg Manifold, Injection housing,
have gone a bit discoloured / oxidised.
Whats the best methods to tart them up? Can the manifold be painted, and what should the colour be.

Anyone got a spare pipe so I can get rid of this damn dump valve as well!!!
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I can get any of the engine parts properly painted/power coated if you are interested.

Here is some inspiration for you.......

If it's mint and original then clean it and leave it be. Buying chrome parts and painting parts will lower the value of the car in the long run.

It's getting to the point now with the series one that serious buyers are paying serious money for unmolested cars.

I wouldn't have touched anything that had been extensively changed when I searched out my minter. I found mine with very few modifications only 60K miles with a new exhaust being the main change.....

Only replace parts with original Ford mint parts. Anything aftermarket is a big no no in my book......

Oven cleaner is a good idea. I just think that a meticulous clean one afternoon can bring up the bay beautifully.

The problem with the S1 bay is that there was a lot of sloppy work from Ford originally, around the strut tops, on the inner wings etc - brush marks everywhere so it's either clean them and keep original or paint them and restore.

I think originality is very important with the S1. The chrome bays on the S2 look fabulous - take T28 RST's red S2 above - stunning. I just dont think personally that the S1 suits the chrome as much.

There's a hell of a lot of shitter S1's remaining now, the original ones are becoming very hard to track down - I looked for a long long time, I almost made my mind up that I would have to extensively restore one before I found the one I purchased - https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=109915

I only know of a handful of original mint cars, one sold up in Scotland last week we believe for 8K, MikeyXR2i refused 10K for his sub 30K car a couple of weeks ago, then there's Mike's non-custom over in Yorkshire - absolutely mint and original, fireandskill1's car - https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=111366 - amazing condition also.

Keep it mint mate, and sit back and watch the prices rise as the shitters die off.

Thanks for replies

With only 30k on the clock and being so good condition I wouldnt dream of going down the chrome route.
When I look at the concourse cars and a lot of S1`s I`ve seen have better than showroom engines where most components have been painted or coated.

IE
if u look at my manifold its brown :E without going to the expense of buying one can I refurbsished in any way?

The Turbo housing seems to have oxidation on it.

It basically seems to be the front metal parts that could do with a spruce up to bring it inline with the overall immaculate condition of the car.

I havent really started to worry about underneath but again from quick inspection the bodywork is immaculate and looks like the previous owner has begun to try and concourse but some of the metal items again have suffered slight corrosion etc.

I dont want a show car as the expense is too great I just want a very clean 30k example all round

off topic but how gorgeous are s1's?? lurrrrvely!

keep it original, clean plastic parts and use some back to black or summit, that makes a huge difference to the overall look. if you have any loose rust spots or anything on metal (NOT painted surfaces) you could VERY VERY lightly dust them off with a fine wire wool. that certainly makes my manifold and turbo look better. do not press hard as you will make it look crap.

then use a cleaner that is designed to protect paint but get off baked on dirt (oven cleaner does seem a good idea), then wash everything. hope thats a point in the right direction.

Hmm
I see what you mean Mikey, they do look similar and you example is a definate benchmark
Perhaps I`m being too picky, i`ll give it a good spit and polish all round, see if I can make it any cleaner

Someone recently (think it was Tony with the grey S1) painted their manifold with some dark coloured heat resistant paint (not hammerite) and it looked lovely. Can't find the pic tho.
