Now then, book my car in for a setup at ART due to them be close to me. Just spoke to Tony who is recommended to me and told him wanted the full car engine checking and setting up, cam dialing in etc etc, i asked about if he adjusts the AFR if needed on the fuel accumulator but he says he doesn't touch them as once you go near them they go tits up??

I thought this would be a norm to do or is that right or do tuners norm adjust them ?

That's what I thought but I'm no good with setting these up I hold my hands up I work on modern crap but was a bit surprised as how will he set the AFR if he doesn't touch that ...........

 

Maybe its cause you asked if he adjusted the accumulator? The accumulator will never get touched in a fuel setup. Metering unit/regulator yer.

Tho it sounds like he may well have realised you meant metering unit and as per 99% of tuners who don't specialise around these cars he's shying away from K-Jet and spouting the normal BS that they dont stay in tune. I'd go elsewhere tbh

 

I was told he was good with escort Rs turbos and cosworths. Like you say my be me been pissed saying the wrong thing lol long day and week so far but do they adjust the metering fuel 'black box' on the side normally that's the main thing I guess that's spun my head lol. I think stu at MD Blackpool has spoke to him before and he seems a cool guy. Be easier I guess if I changed mfi to efi but enjoy a challenge.

 

The previous owner of my car (still on KE-Jetronic (MFi)) took it to NMS in Derby. For the power it runs it actually drives very well and so far it doesn't seem too horrific for a K-Jet car. You have to remember that not many people will deal with K-Jetronic systems. If I am honest, there are probably more people out there dealing with SUs, and definitely Weber DCOEs and modern ECU setups.

Ford were not the only people to put a K-Jetronic setup onto a turbocharged engine, Porsche also did with the 924 Turbo and 924 Carrera GT/GTS. With that in mind (and seeing some people tune up with good results up to around 260BHP) I would be tempted to check out people potentially in that sector. EMC Motorsport in Saltley, Birmingham (www.emcmotorsport.com) are worth a shout (they have worked on all sorts and made a very fruity CVH engined Fiesta XR2 back in the day). Ask for either Kevin or Alex and say that Chas sent you .

I would possibly recommend NMS but I have not dealt with them myself so am not in a position to comment. Their website would suggest that they know about how to go about setting up a car with a K-Jetronic system.

 

I always use Evotune in Durham, as Jamie has massive experience in RS Turbos and Cosworths. He has never had a problem setting/adjusting my MFI, and always gains good results everytime I go down with a new mod.

Has a great no nonsense approach, and just gets on with it. Wouldnt trust my cars anywhere else.

 

The full load WOT fuelling and timing is the most important thing to be adjusted, if he hasn't done that then yes take it elsewhere.

Yer he said he did the C0 mate but im talking about the 'black box' on the metering unit, think i said the wrong thing just wanting to make sure the AFR is all set right that was all but people say good things. Did he sort yours ? good results etc

 

Black box is the electro magnetic fuel pressure regulator, that is what sets the fueling underload iirc

As Stu said it the EMFPA on the right hand side of the metering unit that controls the on boost fueling.

 

I've always had the metering unit adjusted on mine when it was mfi he's right they do go wrong but I also had a vaccume hose from the cross over the part of the air flow meter to raise fuel pressure with boost pressure

Mine was done at grove garage and was spot on

There's a little adjuster screw on the flow meter its self why would they put it there unless it needed a tweet?

 

Well im going to go, always try people and heard good things so happy now........... only problem my turbo oil seal has just gone so need a new turbo ............................... FUCK

 

What are you going to do if he says its lean and will blow. Go to someone known to do it correctly.
