Post Fuel Pump Question For Zetec Turbo

Hi All,

Me again,

I am looking to do a Zetec Turbo conversion on my Orion which is currently MFI. Regarding the fuel pump, I can see that it is mounted behind roughly where the passengers headlight is. When I go to Zetec Turbo can I leave the fuel pump there or do I have to convert to an in tank one?

More to the point will the MFI fuel pump on the Orion be able to supply enough fuel for the Zetec Turbo injector rail or will I need to find an up-rated one? any recommendations ? trying to keep this conversion as simple as possible haha!!

.... Thats the fuel filter in the engine bay. The fuel pump is/should be right at the back of the car between the rear wishbones.

I wouldn't be attempting the conversion if you can't differentiate between a pump and filter (tongue in cheek)

HAhahahaaha very good, it was dark honest and I had only given it a quick look!! That solves that problem then so anyway back on topic will I need to swap it out for a different more uprated one or will one be ok as it currently is ? If uprated what is the best option for this?

The MFi pump is very capable. Ultimately it depends on your final spec/fuel delivery needs etc tho

Planning on the Siemens Deka 600+ cc injectors at 3 bar of fuel pressure, You reckon it was up to the task? i remember on my Fiesta RS Turbo I had to uprate the fuel pump to a Cossie item, I take it that this is Fiesta Specific then?

Fiestas have intank pumps where as escorts/orions (presuming this is the setup your using) would have an external pump.
I honestly wouldnt be able to say if it could cope on that setup, someone else would be better to recommend

A stock RST pump is good for 300bhp+ but I'm not sure exactly how much+ lol

Im doing a zetec turbo my self and have an external and intank pump with a surge tank setup inbetween, braided fuel lines and adjustable fuel pressure regulator with gauge. Got the bosch 044 as my external pump, the bosch 044 will deliver 300lph of fuel which will be more than enough for me. Plan to run between 300-400bhp. Might be something for you to look into, there are in tank fuel pumps that offer 300lph but how accurate they are i couldnt say.

I take it by surge you mean a swirl pot type device. ?? Going to be using a FRST Fuel rail which has the adjuster on it so I can regulate the pressure, Just need to find a fuel pressure gauge now

Yea surge tank/swirl pot, I'd say get the gauge, see what type of fuel pressure your getting and see if the standard pump holds up, some of the ford mustang pumps apparently run at 300lph, or there a dw65c pump that runs 265lph which is more than standard.
