what are they and what is done to the sump

im having a alloy sump made up and wonder if i could get the chap to get it baffled?

is it just the case of having plates welded in to stop the oil swirlling about?

A baffles sump is like a series of barries in the sump.

It stops the oil all gathering on one side when you go round a long fast corner....

If you think about it the engine oil pump only collects oil from one point in the sump... if theres no oil at that exact point ALL the time then it will not suck up any oil and will starve your bearings of oil!!!

for example

you can see the area at the back is were the oil pick up goes... and you can see as std the area is baffeled a bit

My sump was baffled by APT, I also had a modified oil pick up fitted too.

No offence, but Andy's car isn't as powerful as the cars we are talking about, and how do you know he doesn't get any problems, he doesn't have any gauges

Better safe than sorry

LOL @ no gauges

my car once finished will be 270/300, got fully adjustable suspension and will handle VERY well, so just making sure it'll all be safe

Hi, I blew up my 2 litre zetec as it does not like much oil, just over minimum left in engine after each stage at croft this june, it just throws it into my catch tank.
i have no return feed to the sump, would this solve me killing bottom ends on the track or do i need a bafflelled sump?? dry sumps are very expensive??
Any advice out there??
