Im after a gearbox for our lasses Fiesta mk3 1.3i, is there any difference between these and one for a 1.3 mk4 fiesta say, or does anyone know the name of the box i.e. mt75, type 9, etc etc so i can try to find a re-con'd one?
Sounded to me very much like a VERY noisy wheel bearing but i can find nothing up with any of them, no play, no gritty feel, no noise when spun up by hand so got Nic to drop it at my mate's garage today for him to have a look at, (asked how much dollar to square up with him, he refused said not to worry just for diagnosing) agree's there's now't up with the bearings, reckons its more likely the gearbox is on its way out.
THis on top of the bastard money pit RS turbo i bought, that now i've started digging into it, seems to have had loads of attention by a wazzock who hasn't got a bloody clue how to work on a car, unless its to bodge it.
I need a car to get to work, so have been borrowing the fiesta while the Turbines off the road. Nic usually needs a car for work so on the days she needs it, she's been dropping me off at work then going in herself.
So out of two people with two cars, now neither of the damn things work right.
Its ballsed up going to Santa Pod this weekend, which was going to be my last 'blowout' so to speak before settling down to mundane things like painting ceilings, choosing wallpaper, tidying up the garden, and building a shed because to bloody cap it all off, its right in the slap bang chuffing middle of buying our first house.

To say am fed up, is..... a big bloody understatement. Going to sell the motor and buy a push bike, or a donkey. Or just bloody walk everywhere.
And breath.....thankyou, feel better for letting that out!

I think an LSD might be slightly overkill for a 1.3 endura and all of it 60-something ponies haha
Thats my plan fella, ill drop the old oil out and pop some nice fresh in and try it before i start looking at drastic options, but tbh by the sounds of it i think its i bit past that, its not half making a row! Not whining as such, its for all intents and purposes like a wheel bearing when they start to rumble and drone, but louder, and obviuosly it speeds and slows with road speed, as opposed to engine speed. Other than being a bit stiff to get first gear when its cold on a crawl upto a junction say, (which it always has been, as were my mk6 and mk4 Escorts,) and once in a blue moon it'll snick when it goes into second, its got no problem selecting or holding gears.

may be worth putting some very thin oil in there first change
put in on stands so no load and leave it run for a bit off the ground to wash the inside of the box out
also go up and down the gears with the front off the ground
then good stuff
if ya get me

Anybody know of any internal differences between a 1.1 and 1.3 gearboxes? i.e. how much difference in the ratio there is if any? I've found a box, same car, year, engine type etc etc, only difference being this is off a 1.1
i know the block it the same but thats about it
easiest car to change a box on imo
my cockeyed way (ive done fuck loads) is to rip out the engine and the box out the top, fit the engine up with new clutch and release bearing (i usually lightly lube them too but not enough to flick off everywhere)
then chuck it all back in
im not a fan of working under a car and a 1.3 is such a farty little engine it will pulll out in 45 mins i would think
i usually pull rst engines out to change clutches tho
i just prefer it that way, more hassles with oils and coolant i spose

Im pretty sure only 5spd boxes from 1.1/1.3 mk3 fiestas/mk4 escorts will fit and work. Mk4/5 fiesta, puma and ka boxes are all hydrolic clutch(whereas the mk3fez is cable). And I think the starter motors are in diffrent places too
They are called bc5 gearboxes too if you need to ask about. Pretty sure the ratios are the same tho. Easiest way I find to do it is - disconnect fuel lines, water pipes, relevent wiring, exhaust, gear linkage then 2bolts on left side eng mount, 4 g/box cradle bolts.then drop out from underneath. Job done

Ye i found that out, i went for a looky at the one turbosimpsons kindly offered me at the start of the thread, turns out that was a mk4 one with hydraulic clutch though. Providing a 1.1 box isn't going to massively under gear the 1.3, that do right enough
I just looked thru my owners handbook (lol) and found the 1.3s are slightly longer than the 1.1s. Whether thats because they got 60hp instead of the 1.1s 50/54hp I dunno, either way I dont think you'll notice the difference
dont know why so many people are suggesting removing the engine and box together on a car that will take no longer than 30 minutes to remove the gearbox on a ramp, sounds like a lot of fucking about to me lol
Even on the floor it can't be much more than an hours job! Fuck taking the engine out!
Any BC gearbox will fit but not all IB5 boxes will. An IB5 off another endura will fit but the rest probably won't. Gearboxes from the 16v cars will tilt the engine backwards for example.

Yeah your right, you could probly leave the engine in resting on a jack, and just drop the box out.
Only the same box would be suitable imo for the sake of ratios, hcs engines (not enduras) are slow enough anyway without having long ratios. Mk3 16v boxes dont alter the angle of the engine either im pretty sure

Tried Remoco in stockport on the off chance, thought it might be a bit to old a car for them to be dealing with, by luck they had one from a 1.3, known good, with three month warranty and all, for Ł60
ill get it flung in this weekend
