the rings and pistons have to be the right size for the bore of the block

I would not skimp on such a critical part of your engine best get the bores sized then get the correct piston and rings maybe just get them rebored ,did try this on a mini years ago the piston and rings were right on the limit so I just got new rings within months she was a real smoker an oil burner ! so do it right !

Pistons should have an appropriate clearance for the bore, on a typical 80-90mm bore it will usually be a couple of thou on a standard engine and double that on a forged turbo engine.
Rings have an appropriate clearance as well, normally in the 15 thou or so ballpark on a similar sized bore.

You cant increase the size of either one without altering the other as the other would end up far too loose.

i would say no as the pistons would be slack in the bore. i am guessing you have been fed a lot of pish tbh. what engine is it and why are you stripping it? does it smoke /knock etc

its an rs turbo engine mate, my engine is needing a few quid spent on it so i baught another 1, the guy said it had bottom end rebuild used the engin then took it out because the shell was fucked and the engine was left laying for 2 years, so i took the big ends and mains out to check them and the shells are quite worn

dude ,try answering the questions people are asking you. if you have this much lack of knowledge i dont think you should be stripping/building engines IMO.

Red ones are faster, so must have the right pistons

Was just trying to get across that to know what size his pistons are I would need to open his engine up and get measuring, and Ive not even seen the car let alone inside the engine.
