well speaking hypothetically how will an £800 claim affect your insurance? for example if you have been driving for 4 months and might have tapped into the back of somebody else (making it your fault) how much would a claim affect your insurance as you have didn't have any no claims to lose. thanks guys

i expect it will add 1/3 extra to policy but to find out go on confuselleded.com and make a new quote with new details as if you had a claim but dont use your real name or address and computers are clever and even if you dont get a claim if you say you had a crash its just as bad

You DO have no claims to loose.
You've just lost (would loose) it for this year, meaning it will take 2 years in total just to get 1 years NCB.

So in real terms you'll be paying a penalty in next years premium and probably a couple more years PLUS extra every year for at least 5 years or however long it takes to get to max NCB as you are (will be ) 1 year missing.

.

i bet youll pay more than £800 extra for at least the next 3 years. So they will get more than thier moneys worth out of you.

these days its not worth claiming if it can be avoided unless its thousands and thousands of damage.

Do not claim. Pay the damage to the other car out of your pocket. If you claim on insurance you will be penalised for the next 5 years.

Ye if you can help it, see if the person you bumped into will allow you to just pay for the damage, so both of you won't have to go through your insurance companies, they will shaft the both of you.

if the damage is £800 you have to consider that insurance companies add on extra for each letter or phone call they make in relation to the claim so that could turn into a cost of a couple of grand easily

is it 3 years no claims you lose for each claim? plus the current year that you no longer qualify for. so technically you have -3 years ncd come renewal? for a new and possibly young driver thats a grim position to be in.

I always find the whole thing totally unfair. your NCB expires in 2 years yet accidents stay on for 5 years. totally one sided rip off cunts.

what I cant get my head from is that you pay for a service upfront based on the asumption that you WONT need to use the service you have paid for. usualy a huge amount. but when you use the service that you have paid for, they then raise your premium.
Thats not fair in my eyes.

insurance is forced gambling.

I wish there was a sensible way of self insuring.

im looking at getting a cheap runaround just because its approaching that 2 year without a car threshold and i dont want to lose my no claims. ive been driving a company motor for the last couple of years since someone rear ended my own car and wrote it off but that 2 years without a claim in my work van isnt counted on my personal record.
i do a lot of miles as well. since i got my sprinter new in april ive put 24000 miles on the clock.
a fairer way for no claims might be at set mileage points rather than time as someone who does 40000 miles in a year and doesnt crash should be less of a risk than someone who maybe only does 5000 miles a year.

there is a way,
From what Ive been told Tesco do not have inurance on their trucks as such.
they need to have a certain amount of money in the bank to make sure they can cover any claims against them, not sure the exact figure

I've heard that before too. Still not really a sensible way for the rest of us since 50 quid isn't likely to cover it

bus companies have the same thing

they have a bond, something like £4,000,000 or along those lines, which they deposit with some 3rd party

in the case of a bump, they have enough money to settle any claims arising from it wihtout touching the bond, which is there for when you have a BIG claim

which is why you hardly EVER get paid out if you have a bump with a bus

You need a set amount in a government account iirc. This is how the emergency services are covered. If you were an insurer would you touch the police

If you can pay for the damage to the third party car then great, but, if someone was in the car, they may suddenly think 'personal injury' and have an ambulance chaser after you, at which point your insurance may decline to get involved as they state you should have told them instantly.

Make sure you dont leave it too long to decide and make sure you have covered your ass, and remember, just becuase you could get work done cheap, doesnt mean the third party will want to, they may want to use a large garage/bodyshop who may charge £££££££ more than you could get it done. Also you have to sweeten them a little as whilst their car is repaired, they may not have acess to a courtesy car unless the garage off one free of charge whilst they do the repair.

An bump with £800 damage is not an £800 claim, it is way way more.

When I was at HDNL, the insurance certificate on the wall in the office, (and this was confirmed by my manager) had the policy excess as £50k...
