Default Car breakdown cover. Who you all with?

As above - my car breakdown cover is due to expire in a couple of weeks. I want a good level of cover, i'm currently with Tesco and have their top package. If me and the other half renew together we can get it for £53 each. What cover do you all have? Who are you with? What do you pay and who do you recommend?
Obviously i thought the best place to ask was a forum supported by loads of people running shonky old Fords (myself included) where breakdown cover is a must lol.

I use the one Barclays provide me with on my Premier account. I believe it essentially offers me everything, at home, away from home, travel back etc and recovery.

With my bank account I pay £10 a month for a load of extras. One of which is road side assistance, onward travel and car hire via the RAC.
Had a bad experiance with the AA as they did not believe I was a member with them and left me stranded on my first day of xmas leave years ago. Would not ring me back on my pay as you go as credit was short.
Moved to the RAC and never had a problem, always been quick and spot on. Even came out for a mates car. Called them out about 6 times with my old mondeo in one year lol

Although the RAC were on Watchdog tonight for really bad service and waiting time.

Have heard good things about Green Flag but never used them

Might have to start trawling t'interweb to see who's offering what. This year i think the RAC is providing the coverage for Tesco whereas previous years i think it was Green Flag.

For anyone that's interested this is what Tesco have to offer:

I am currently with the AA which expires this week! However after a meeting with my bank they offered me the said cover with them that coveres phone etc as well. I may well take this up, however neither is cheap, both are over £100 a year. I have nothing fancy either with AA just roadside recovery.

Bank one will offer Homestart etc as well, which I have no interest in anyway, it's worth looking into this if your bank offers it, as it covers the said phone as well as other things like overdraft cover etc, again something I don't need!

RAC good points: the patrol will do his best to fix your car,as he will be under pressure to fix your car,and not put it up for a recovery
Bad points : time to get to you, 90mins is the norm;they have very few trucks themselfs,so if you have a 4x4 they will have to get a contracter in to do the recovery.Their vans and trucks do not go out of there area, 60 miles due to tacho laws,so again they will have to get a contracter to do the job.

AA good points:they too will do there best to fix the car, they also have more patrols.
Bad points:they have more members than anyone else,so at busy times they may take longer to get to you

Green Flag good points: they use local garages/contracters,so should be quicker at getting to you.If you have full cover they will take you home no problem as they will get paid more
Bad points:Not all garages/contracters carry diagnostic equipment

Europ Assistance,Mondial Assistance,Britannia rescue and the others same as Green Flag

Trouble is though they are as the name suggests Patrol operators, I have never heard of them rectifying anything at the side of the road, unless it's maybe something very simple such as a flat battery. They also seem to carry little in the way of spares, so by definition you are always going to need to be recovered!

I would disagree with your opinion as alot more gets repaired at the roadside that most people know, temp repairs are carried out on a day to day basis and they do carry some spares, also collect and fit parts from various places. Just my opinion

AA or RAC would be the best option, both are the very similar, AA is a bit more advanced but it depends on where the Patrols are free and located for waiting times etc, sometimes it can be just luck if you beakdown near a patrol and the waiting time is not very long

im an rac patrol n think our service or aa is best option.i know we were on watchdog last night but 4 complaints in 6 months with an average of 1.7 million breakdowns a year isnt a bad percentage tbh.we are offering a free recovery option at the moment when buying one of our solutions packages which is roadside (as it suggests and a maximum of 10 mile tow limit) and at home which is as it suggests is at home or 1/4 mile from home.normally recovery is £55 but we are offering that with at home and roadside for £99.50.
tbh insurance companies who use green flag and eastern general are normally just recovery drivers,we will attempt to fix your car or get u mobile enough to carry on your journey or to a garage.those other companies will usually just come with a truck n tow you away
hope that info helps

btw we carry alot of spares and parts on our vans.coils, sensors,ht leads, plugs, batteries, fan belts, even transit aux belt tensioners etc so we are pretty stocked in getting someone going again
