Default Insuring one main car but being entitled to use others?

Not really sure how this insurance malarky works to be honest.

Im with churchill at present, aged 24, 2 years ncb, driving for 6 - 7 years, and pay about £500 a year TPFT on a ST24.

Basically i like buying and selling cars from time to time, i dont want like a traders policy, but im after some sort of policy where i can be insured on one main vehicle but then if needs be insured on another? For example, i had a 2000 reg mondeo, i bought a ST24 1998 last weekend which has failed its MOT, I was going to put the ST24 in for its MOT repairs, but i need a car for work, only other option would mean changing it back over again to my 2000 reg mondeo (at a cost of £16 admin charges) and then back again onto the ST24 (at another cost again of £16)

Is there any companys that can help with this? I was insured with kwik fit once and i could drive other cars that didnt belong to me and wernt under hire purchase agreement.? but every policy ive taken out since dont seem to offer this anymore?

Cheers

Nope very few companys offer this as a lot of people were abusing it, it's called "Third Party Extension" where by you are only covered by the bare minimum to be legal on the road and your not supposted to do it as a regular thing, in most cases one of the qualifications are that you are 25+ years old, the car is not yours and you have the owners permission to drive it and it is not a van, hire car etc, I had it on a policy which had no age restrictions which is very rare!

Yea i had it on my kwik fit i had the focus ST insured but i had diesel i used to do go to work in during the week and i just had the logbook in my mums name, but yeah guess everyone was doing that, the last two policys ive had dont offer that level of cover. I also thought i was insured to drive my mates car as we are both fully comp but turns out i wasnt and i ended up getting 6 points for the privelage. gotta be so careful these days..

Nope it's third party only so the bare minimum to be legal on the road, being fully comp does NOT mean you are entitled to the "Third party extension" this is one of the biggest misconceptions.

As I say above there are a whole host of restrictions chief among which is your age, due to the abuse it got 99% of the time you find where offered you have to be 25+ years old. If in any doubt check your insurance certificate as it will stipulate on there whether you have it or not.

Also the owner of the car does NOT have to be fully comp for it to apply, but they do need to have some form of insurance, it really is designed for emergency's etc.
