i also hate being a student. cant wait till i've finished but i've only got 1 more month of hard graft left. then i can get work to tide me over till i graduate and the market picks up and get a proper job!

i cant wait till i'm not poverty stricken.

i'm 22 and now in over Ł22,000 + of debt so either this country better pick up for engineers or i'm fucking off abroad.

if i was you, id start paying off overdraft and debts, then start saving money, because blowing it on a piece of shit car that is only gonna cost you more and more (insurance, fuel, maintenance) isnt going to do any good.

you need to hold onto money as one day you might realise how important it is at times, rather than spunk it up the wall.

id like to understand how you can afford 1k a month on cars because im damn sure some people dont even earn that a month working full time, and you have these posts/threads suggesting you are skint!!!

 

sell your 2L car, buy a smaller engine cheaper to run one, that would save you on insurance and fuel costs

the 2L isnt necessary, cant expect to blow it all before you get it.

i agree, i find a lot of students are there doing mickey mouse degrees just so they can get Ł3k pluss a year maintenance loan to spunk on drink and drugs. and then cant get a decent job so dont earn above the Ł15k thresh hold aqnd dont pay any of it back.

i have worked fucking hard for the 4 years i've been at uni, had part time jobs to keep a bit of cash flowing in till this year being my final year and now dont have the time for a job, hence why the car is now suffering but i only have another month left then i'm done so no point gettin rid of the car

There are a lot of bullshit degrees around, but don't tar us all with the same brush. And you might like to know that I have to pay my tuition fees and maintenence loans back, with interest, so you're hardly paying for it are you? I haven't had a loan payment since before Christmas due to a string of screw ups so I'm bloody skint and scraping by on pennies, hardly an easy life is it

I agree with Phil_Focus I'm doing the same degree in my 3rd year but doing a Meng in Automotive & Motorsport Engineering becuase hopefully within a year the engineering industry would have picked up especially the Automotive market!

Most degrees are a waste of time we have it hard.

Oh and i work part time too to tie me over so i'm not a lazy ass student!

I did read what you said. You said most students. That's quite clearly inaccurate in my experience and, seeing as I am a student, and am at a university at least five days a week, I would say I'm in a better position to judge than someone who isn't a student.

You make it sound like we have such an easy life and don't do anything at all? We do have assignments and exams. We may get very little contact time per week, but we're expected to study outside that contact time. When you do four modules per semester (or five this time in my case), that adds up to more hours than the average full time job, trust me. Some people are lucky enough to be able to get by without that, others aren't.

I like the way you make out you've got it hard by having to go to work every day by comparison. Ok, there are downsides, as with both sides. You may go and work in a quarry to support your family, but I'm sure no one has forced you to do that job; you could always apply for others and work in a nice warm office? And for the hardship of doing your job, you get given money for it, which means you can buy things for your family, maybe go on holiday, have a decent car perhaps. I don't get to do any of those things.

I absolutely think there are too many pointless degrees out there, and there should be more incentive for people to learn a trade. We have far too many people with degrees in sociology/psychology/media/film etc etc etc, but without the higher education system, and us all having "a easy life sitting in a class in the warm while getting loans and grants", where would the next generation of engineers, designers, lawyers, doctors, nurses all come from? Abroad, that's where. Just like a load of plumbers, electricians and the like have come over in recent years.

I agree the balance is wrong in education, but the thought that most of us are lazy sponging c*nts is the biggest load of toss going. That arguement went out of the window when grants were scrapped. When I finish here I'll be in over Ł20k worth of debt, before I've even thought about buying a house. And if I'm lucky enough to get a decent job, I could well end up paying a high rate of income tax as well. What a sponger I am

To anyone who thinks students are middle class, you are lost in the 80's. I met more drop kicks and dead beats at uni than I did at college. The course started with 210 and by the end of the 4th year, less than 100 passed. So many parents think little johnny is going to be a superstar and shell out all their money for him, only for him to piss it away each night. Granted Bournemouth did attract more party going students than Reading. Having Student Loans only makes it easier too as low income means full loan.

 

I fucking hate that its parents income assessed as if you finish with the same degree as someone who gets the extra money/help you have the same job opportunities as them and the same ability to pay the loan back.

I don’t get my loan income assessed as my dad earns above the threshold and I’m bloody lucky he pays my rent cos otherwise I wouldn’t be able to afford it! AND at any time he could say no to paying my rent but I still wouldn’t be able to get any more student loan.

Same with ema, that is a load of shite. Half my friends who got it didn’t go to uni and it all went on paying for beer, fags and petrol!! Thats a huge waste of tax payers money!!!

Agreed! My parents earn just over 100k a year combined, but they dont give me a penny.

So SLC wont give me much at all because they earn too much.
