Default cleaning up a stainless exhaust system

quite fancy not being completely lazy this afternoon, so was planning on cleaning up my mongoose system for my s2

its covered in loads of caked and burnt on old oil from where i had catastrophic sump gasket failure so suffice to say its filthy

whats the best products to use to not only get rid of the oil, but also get it nice and shiny and polished looking again?

i have a mop and the usual g3 and 3m finesse it polishing stuff if thats any good?

any advice would be great, and dnt mean to rush any answers but ASAP!!! LOL

I had to machine sandpaper it (120, 150, 240) then polish with Belgom and finally with Autosol. Found the result good enough, exhaust was very dirty when I first got it. Look at my topic, can maybe be of some help to you.

Good luck!

thanks for that, your exhaust system polished up really nice

ive been and bought some gunk to clean off all the old oil so that it doesnt clog any of the cleaning equipment after.

and i also have some scotch cloth, a mop with a firm compounding head, loads and loads of rag, a bottle of metal polish, plus a tube of autosol for finishing.

if the rain holds off, im gonna go give it a whirl

started this today using grease remover to get rid of most of the burnt on oil, then red scotch to really shift all of the remaining dirt and tarnishing, then attacked it with the mop and hard compounding head, using some metal polish

took a bloody while as no1 was around to hold the exhaust, so had to kind of use the mop with 1 hand

has come up mint though. there are a few scratches still, but they would be too deep for wet n dry to touch, so will live with them, but the shine on it is immense

will try and get some pics off my phone

is there any sort of product i can use to protect it now that its done? or is it a matter of having to keep at it with autosol etc?
